Version Update Delay

Well aside from the problems going on in the country, they are in some trouble if you ask me. Maybe not so much FFXI but FFXIV for sure, they most likely will delay and updates on that also. I know a lot of friends that are already looking into and trying new MMO's atm due to FFXI down. I wouldn't be surprised if they lost a lot of people.

Weird, I think I remember them using the term "March update" a couple of times in tweets or stuff.

I seem to be one of the few people that never read anything about a March update..... I think people maybe assumed it was because the world merge post said "during the upcoming maint" and the last merge took place along with an update. Seems stupid to have two maintenances for two things that should be done at once. Also it should have been clarified sooner but I was expecting late April/early May for the update anyway, smaller dev team etc.

Yeah, seconding all the people who are pissed about the "April" update, which was supposed to be in fucking March.

The Spring 2010 update was late March. Mid-April isn't that far off the mark.

Perhaps someone just made that up. There wasn't any information on the date besides "upcoming".

Think they're getting bored and working extra hard on the former "march/april" update, or just slacking off and helping disaster victims?

March 16th was supposed to be the date for the world merge, they didn't explicitly say that the version update would be at the same time, some people simply assumed this. Later they dropped a notice saying the merge would be delayed to the day that they would implement the "major update", confirming everybody who assumed 16 march for the major update was wrong.

Alot of people thought the 3 months inbetween updates would stick in 2011. I sorta expected them to drop the ball on that as soon as they announced mini-patches between big patches.

This is the first time they mentioned a date (or well a goal, mid april) for the major update and the date is already useless since it's delayed for an unknown time XD

This is the source of confusion. Digging into the World Merge thread, this notice originally stated:

World Merge, which is scheduled to take place on Mar. 16, 2011, will now be conducted along with the upcoming major version update.

I remember reading this and interpreting it as "Update on March 16th!". But at some point, they ninja edited their poor wording. The notice now reads:

The World Merge, which was originally scheduled to take place on Mar. 16, 2011, will now be conducted at the same time as the upcoming major version update, which will include, among other things, adjustments to relieve congestion in certain areas, and new game content.

So yeah, that happened.

April makes perfect sense if all had went well. The planned schedule was probably alternating minor and major updates. 3 minor updates and 3 major updates Feb > Apr > Jun > etc. If I had to guess we'll probably miss out on a minor update but we'll see.

its always been march/april.. mostly march but theres been a year it was early april.

based on the pattern of the last 2 years tho, the spring update is the slowest one, partly because it didn't come with add-ons.

No one knows for sure what SE has planned for XI this year cos they didn't give a timeline, and i'd think the disaster would have pushed everything back by a little..
