I have no idea who the troll account is, but I had a laugh at the idea that what SE is doing is the equivalent of pushing the power button on their Dell and yelling down the hall to ask mom to turn down the AC.

As SNK and others pointed out, the systems they have running FFXI are likely a tad more complicated than the PC you got for Christmas. I actually imagine they had to be pretty creative to cut the AC for certain, non-essential parts of the building while still maintaining enough cooling to keep the hardware safe. Then again, they probably just have a switch for that, right?

Also- estimates on the number of people who went a week (or however long it was) without FFXI, saw that life didn't end, and decided to quit? I'm going with 0.

It was a fucking stupid comment. After almost a week and a half of people crying about the servers being down, SE should move them to another location, and we have rights to our game so we don't care if Japan goes back to the stoneages and now you posting shit about why they can't turn it on now is just over the top. Put a fucking cork in it, shut the fuck up & just wait like the majority of us are.

Man, I ask a simple question of why it would take 3 days to power on a server and I get called a dick, retard, ungrateful, accused of bitching. WTF man?!!???

You guys sure are friendly! NOT.

To those that actually gave a response that would make sense as to why 3 days would be sufficient to power back up, without cutting me down or other nonsense, thanks.

Edit. I see that they have ALREADY shut down the AC and reduced the lighting. But that still doesn't explain to me why it would take 3 more days for servers to be turned back on...

Serious data centers are always climate-controlled. With the servers offline, they were probably able to turn off their data center AC units for the last week.

Well, with just my TV, laptop and PS3 or Xbox, I can heat my apartment up ~10 degrees warmer than it is outside. I'm sure if you are running an MMO, the heat coming off the servers is going to be substantial enough that you'll run the air fairly cool on that floor, or maybe the whole building? I don't know, but that would be my best guess.

AC for air-conditioning usually doesn't mean just cooling but sometimes heating as well. that or wooooooooooooooooosh.

It's cos of the way you phrased the question. You probably would have gotten a better response if you didn't try to cut down S-E. They didn't shut down the servers because of their usual bullshit. They did it in response to a national crisis. Likening S-E to your retarded mother in law to try to be funny or whatever is just tiresome after nearly two weeks of back and forth between people with a sense of understanding and the addicts who think that the server shutdown shouldn't have happened to begin with.
