If this were the case it really shows. The more I look at it the weirder it becomes. What is wrong with these renders? The model itself looks fine (the costume more than the weapons), but the rendering and lighting is just off. Maybe it's the environment as well? Shit looks weird.

Why don't they turn it into Final Fantasy Dissidia Online, I mean, there's a lot of people screaming for it.

To me, if they keep going further this way, it will dilute FFXIV's identity to the point of it being just a shitty crossover FF title, I'm fine with homages to locations like Costa del Sol or Magiteck Armor making their appearance as mobile military weapons for the empire and stuff like that, because they somewhat fit into the theme/story, now, taking an actual character that has NOTHING to do with Eorzea, that doesn't fit in any way, shape or form into the game and just shoehorning it into the game because whythefucknot is a red line that shouldn't have been crossed IMO.

Well, the behemoth you can see on the far righthand side of that picture is a XIII behemoth, so I'm guessing it's a group battle with Light as an NPC.

For those that care since I don't think it was linked in this thread unless I missed it:

A Miqo’te costume will also be available for Lightning from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and that’s when Naoki Yoshida (director) took the stage to announce that Lightning costumes for females and Snow costumes for males will be available in Final Fantasy XIV. Weapons from the Final Fantasy XIII series and even a Lightning cameo are in the works.

There will be a quest where you battle her or with her. You'll get the costume after you win. Whether this is a special event for LR:FF13's release or a permenant thing? I don't know.

The reason they're using XIII instead of something else is obvious. Regardless of who or what they used, some would bitch, some would like it, some wouldn't care. For me, as long as it fits in I don't really mind, and while Lightning's costume doesn't really fit in, at least it looks better than santa suits and pseudo gimp suit reindeer outfits.

At least, it should.

Yoshi said that older FF characters/villains might show up but in a special event/dungeon capacity. They wouldn't be part of the FFXIV storyline.

It's not like she'll be part of the main storyline so what's the issue? It's like the Heroine's Combat BCNM from FFXI. It's not storyline, just a fun quest. The second something that could be considered fun comes along everyone flips out. Everyone wants their video game to be serious business. True immersion just like Sword Art Online; where if you die in game, you die in real life. It's the same people that want to remove teleports and make traveling zones take a full real-world day.

I think you are mistaken in thinking some sort of line was crossed now, due to a non-story, silly battle event. You do realize where the Crystal Tower came from, right? This tower goes beyond a similarly named location or distant reference. It's pure fan service that's been shoehorned into the actual storyline.

The time to complain about this is long past. Yoshida was pretty clear when he said FFXIV would be a fanservice FF. The line was left behind like a year ago.

I don't disagree about these things "diluting" FFXIV's identity, however, but honestly I don't really care. So far it's been pretty fun, and things like Lightning are completely harmless if they're not actually integrated into the story. There is supposed to be an arena where we'll fight FF bosses (non-canon to the actual story), I imagine she'll be put there too.

This has collector's edition reward written all over it, the fact they have already confirmed a Cloud costume for pre-ordering shows the lengths they are going to make sure this sells.

I want to believe they are going to make an habbit of referencing older titles here and there, that would be awesome. But I've been one of SEs customers long enough to realize they do not give away cool shit lol. (In b4 I look a total cunt and it's actually completely free)
