And I'd also like to make an addendum by bitching about the fact that I have zero extra money right now to actually see my team play in the playoffs, even if I wouldn't be able to see them on home ice.

I never got the random home/away jersey changes.

Probably did it to increase sales. I imagine people probably buy more home jerseys than away jerseys. So probably changed it so people would buy another, would be my guess. Just speculating though.

on one hand it looks nice when the stands are full of the team's main color, but as a fan, were I a season-ticket holder I'd prefer a white home jerseys, so you see a different color on a night-by-night basis instead of just red vs. White every night.

The change was made because in the 90s-2000s, almost all teams started to use 3rd jerseys and would wear them at random home games. All the 3rd jerseys were darker colors, meaning the visiting team would have to pack 2 sets of jerseys, their dark roads, and their home whites. Was basically just to cut down on the amount of equipment the traveling team would have to bring with them. It wasnt just jerseys, it would be different helmets and socks, etc.
