    Combination jungle grass seed/piranha farm. It sacrifices some efficiency in jungle grass harvesting for the ability to spawn piranhas. It could use some cosmetic cleanup (I started it just a LITTLE too high, and the middle pools could be fuller), but it's functional. I use a vilethorn for killing piranhas.

    Anyone running a dedicated server, or hosting one that's on most of the day? Getting lonely playing alone most of the time now.

    Interesting, I wonder how hard it would be to build a full-fledged piranha farm (or a goldfish farm). I wonder if you could just use a mud-bottomed pool of water (with glass sides, inc aquarium!)...

    Also I totally never realized that Meteor Heads still drop meteorite ore. I just got 1 after all this time, so it must be really rare

    so I take it above-ground jungle rose farms are impossible now? I guess I need to still add a jungle grass underground farm, a jungle grass above ground farm, a piranha aquarium, and I still need an ebonstone room for eater farming....

    Do Meteor Heads drop now? I made a farm for them and didn't get a single ore in a couple hundred kills so I figured they didn't.

  5. #505

    well I mean this was the first I've ever gotten after a long time killing them too, at least as far as I know. According to the wiki they're a 2% drop rate

    I got my first drop from them too the day after the update. Wonder if they did something to them because I farmed 6-7 meteors and never noticed an ore from a head.

    I've never seen one drop either... however if you're mining meteor while killing heads, it's possible to miss the drop.

    I had read a long time ago that they can drop ore. I guess it's just always been ultra rare because I have never seen it happen either.

    Has anyone seen The Groom, Slime King, or Doctor Bones appear in a map that was generated pre-patch? I've gone through like 4 Blood Moons, and have been playing way too much the last few days and I haven't seen any "rare" mobs. I kinda' wish they had spawn requirements instead of just 0.00001% chance.

    I did see Doctor Bones during a blood moon on my main house map. I haven't seen hide nor hair of the Groom or Slime King. Just missing those and the Robot Hat now. Pfft, new content. Back to building housefoolery!

    Does anybody actually know how Water Candles work?

    It seems like somebody had figured out it just had to be in your inventory, but the wiki has been updated to say you need to hold it. Another theory was that it had to be placed on a counter in your house, but that seems to have died out. I'd hate to be carrying around these candles if they weren't working, since I don't plan to physically hold them while I'm out farming.

    I've been carrying a full stack of them for a long time just because I never had a problem with spawn rates being too high unless I'm trying to build in the Underworld or raiding a Dungeon. I haven't done any testing of my own, but it sure as hell wouldn't make too much sense if you had to hold a candle in your hand to attract monsters you can't kill with a candle in your hands. I've begun buying shitloads of Piggy Banks so I can place them around my safehouses around my world and stocking them with Potions and whatnot... which also would make a great temporary drop for Water Candles. As it is, with the candles in my inventory, it's almost impossible to get a chance to build anything without blocking the mobs off via walls.

    Also, big new informative post by Blue: http://www.terrariaonline.com/thread...ah-blah.26762/
    (bolded future content)

    Good afternoon everyone.

    What's Next?
    Now that we have released 1.0.4, we find ourselves already looking to 1.0.5 with many ideas we couldn't squeeze into 1.0.4 quite so readily. Going forward we face our first attempt at adding end level content to the game to make it longer. To do so, we are looking to better balance mid and end level game content as it is now. Many of you have already offered your thoughts in "Redigit's Balance MegaThread", and we are liking some of the input we are seeing.

    Our focus on 1.0.5 (on top of balance, and starting to lay groundwork for end level content.) will also be looking to add some more content to the final two empty areas of the game. The Desert itself may get a few new things in it. Of course, because it can spawn near the start area sometimes, and is required to be passed through many of the times you are trying to get to mid-higher level areas, the desert itself will most likely remain a low to mid level area. So the Desert is not an option for our end level additions.

    The Ocean at the end of the world, may or may not get some content as well in 1.0.5. We are hoping to add more 'depth' (pun) to it. Perhaps the ocean will find itself with some high level content, as it is always far from spawn.

    Also we are aiming more for something in the underworld in the way of high level content. As that part of the game could use more content in general, and is fairly difficult in its own right.

    We will be tossing ideas around the team until we find something that fits just right. We are also looking into the things Redigit mentioned in his last Dev Blog post. Such as worlds you can start up that are harder than a normal world. These additions may be staggered and added in pieces over a few updates since the addition of a whole new more difficult world would be like making another version of Terraria. New Biomes, new enemies, theres a lot that we could put in there, but it all takes time.

    "TAKES TIME?! Hey now, we waited a whole week and a day between 1.03 and 1.04?!"
    As you have noticed, our patches are starting to 'slow down' as it comes to time between release days. But it's not really slower if look at the amount we were able to add due to those extra days. This of course is due to us wanting to offer more stable and more 'filled to the brim' update releases.

    The first three patches, as we stated previously, were focused primarily on fixing bugs present in the early-released version of the game. And we fully accept that people were disappointed with the content offered in those updates. However as you saw in 1.0.4, now that a the majority of bugs have started to become fewer, our focus can now change. We have started to focus more on starting to work in a few of the base game-play features we had wanted (Social Slots being the first of many) before we had originally planed to release.

    Coming up down the road are more features, such as more PVP features/modes, status effects such as poison, and game-play dynamics like weather and enemy/friendly villages/castles. Depending on each of these features and which patch they come with, you may start to see us add a few more days to each patches 'wait' before release. As each new feature will need to be thoroughly tested and also some may take longer to implement than others. We simply ask for you patience for each patch, and we will do our best to make sure the wait is well worth it.

    Our Fan's are kinda awesome, minus the kinda.
    So many fan creations in the form of art, stories, comics and other things of that nature really impress us. They bring us to a place where we feel we can be proud of what we have created. If we can inspire such creative things from others, then we are really doing what we hoped we could.

    If anyone has missed it. My favorite fan creation so far is definitely the Comic by Elagune. Its extremely well made and I look forward to seeing new frames every time I click on it. I also hope VerbalProcessing keeps making more moving adaptations of it.

    Every so often I go to Deviantart.com and search to Terraria. And I am very pleasantly surprised at some of the fan art there. In regards to that, I hope to soon update our main website (which really needs an overhaul) to include a fan art page where we showcase artwork that has been posted here on the forum.

    Oh Hey! The Website!
    Now that I've mentioned it. It really does need some re-working, and also the addition of a few pages, Community Site Links, Fan Art, etc. So I will be attempting a re-working of it myself over the next few days. If I completely fail at it however, we may seek assistance in that matter. (Please don't offer your assistance just yet.) Hopefully in the end, our website will be worth visiting for reasons other than just finding the BUY NOW button and viewing the support page (that also needs some work).

    June 16th.
    Oh hey, look! Our one month anniversary is coming up. We haven't decided if we will be doing anything special in game or not to celebrate. But it would be great to see everyone log in and play on the 16th, regardless of how long you play. It would be awesome if we could blow our record of players on at one time out of the water on that day. Currently I think it stands at around 37,000 players at once logged in and playing. Hope to see you there!

    E3, We didn't go?!
    Yeah, we were invited by a few different companies that all wanted to meet us. And we would have gone if our game release had come a month sooner. But with such short notice we were unable to attend. On a side note, being the PR guy, I am wondering how interesting it would be to meet so many people at once who want to talk about the game/Re-logic and all that. So in regards to that, I will be attending a Gaming/Anime convention in my area this month. It's one that I have gone to on a yearly basis these last couple years, but never as someone who is 'well known', if you can call me that. It's also one of the smaller conventions of its nature (about 2000 in attendance a year.) so it will be a good chance for me to test the waters and see how I'm treated by fans (and possibly haters.) that I happen to run into in person.

    Blah Blah Blah
    Oddly enough a lot of people want to hear about more than just the game in my dev blog and twitter. I'm not sure why what I do on a day to day basis would be interesting to people. But I thought I would throw out a few things Ive done lately to appease those people. Ill keep it off my twitter though, as I like to have that be less 'spam' and more 'important'.
    Played Portal 2 coop with Redigit yesterday. Game is epic win, and I found out, Redigit likes to kill me in funny ways... usually utilizing pits of deadly water.
    Saw Super 8 in theaters last night. I liked it, while at the same time, it lacked a certain closure at the end. I think it was because the movie had two stories going on at once. A Earth side "drama about families in a small town" and the "scifi part" Either way, both were good stories and could have been their own separate movies.
    Also, right now, I'm eating Chinese food. Yum.

    Eh, why not, a zombie/eye/slime grinder. Leave it on for a while, and you may end up with 6 archaeologists hats like I did! Heh. No top hats, though... Leave it up near (but offscreen from) a Corruption area to farm meat for leather.

    Exploring a random world, I got the "King Slime has awoken!" message at the ocean, in a Corruption. The music changed.... then immediately changed back. Slime King nowhere to be found >

    I've seen king slime now 3 or 4 times, and he was always out near the edge of the map. So far I only have the ninja body though.

    I've got a test server up at w3rd.no-ip.org:7777, no pass. I'd like to load-test it and see what it can take. Virgin "large" world, up now. If you're interested, you're welcome to come beat on it.

    I've only been holding 15 candles since I destroyed most of the other ones when they were still bugged not to do anything, but I've yet to really see the same type of increase. Trying to work on a mob grinder for the zombies, and even on a Blood Moon, it still seems to average 3-4 monsters at a time, with 0-1 monsters coming by at daytime and normal nights.

    Code:
    if (Main.player[index3].inventory[Main.player[index3].selectedItem].type == 49)
    {
        NPC.spawnRate = (int) ((double) NPC.spawnRate * 0.75);
        NPC.maxSpawns = (int) ((double) NPC.maxSpawns * 1.5);
    }
    This is from the game's code, and what it's saying is that if the Water Candle is the currently selected item i.e. in your hand it has a similar effect to Blood Moons. Having it in your inventory or placed in your house does fuck all. As an aside, the bug that just got fixed ("The Water Candle’s enemy spawn rate increase effect now works correctly when held") was due to the guy who wrote this mixing up the Water Candle's tile ID with its item number. Item 49 is the Band of Regeneration, so prior to 1.0.4 you got the Water Candle effect by holding one of those and Water Candles did nothing under any condition.

  18. #518

    I hate how you have to hold it, I really wish they'd just make it so it increases spawn rates when equipped as an accessory or something

    Anyone have any ideas as to what kind of room I should build next? Already have a library, a temple, a laboratory, an armory/workshop, and a dining room. I need something to house my clothier!

    how do mob farms/grinders work? How do you get enemies to spawn if they have to spawn off screen, do you just have really big/wide rooms? I am contemplating making a piranha farm but idk how to make it efficient.

    To make a grinder work, you just need to have yourself be the lowest point on the map, so the only thing mobs can do is go towards you and hit the lava. If you give them a bit of space, they'll spawn of fscreen and come into screen and hit the lava. The first one (just need to cap the entrance where you drop in) is especially nice since you can just run back and forth and magnet the drops to you. The second one I had to occasionally go out and Vine back and forth to pick it up.

  20. #520

    I understood that part already actually, thanks though. I guess my question was more like... if you're going to build something like a Jungle/Meteor/Ebonstone farm, you should build it off the edges of the screen instead of in the center, right? Because mobs can't spawn on screen

    Here's my simple grinder I use for sitting at the edge of a random world waiting for Dr Bones/Groom and King Slime. It works pretty well, and you automatically collect every drop except for about 5% or so. It's not so great at killing demon eyes unfortunately, since they tend not to fly into such small spaces.
