If he actually had atmas he probably would out DD more than half of your DDs. Pickup alliances are horrible overall generally. I don't really blame the person at all for wanting to DD on BRD in some pick up alliance.(assuming he would actually be keeping buffs up)

Stick a bard in a party and let them melee, you'll be guaranteed buffs 'cos the bard will want them him/herself :D and in exp, hell yes I would much sooner melee on bard than do some half-assed cure4s, it's not like bard doesn't have access to capped haste, a decent crit-hit WS and WS gear, magian daggers, and so on.

Oh damn you're right, mandau and an empy, sure sign of a quality player right there.

Not denying BRD can melee, but someone that basically says they refuse to do anything but melee on a job that can do that and so much more is still doinitrong either way. Considering the garbage most of us usually have to deal with in abyssea, I wasn't about to take my chances on some random twat that doesn't even wanna bother saying why we should take his BRD. But why am I even defending this shit?

B- dagger access to most of the same gear THF does, and any decent BRD should be buffing in Felibre so will already have dagger equiped. No sense in wasting and extra possible DD and making him stand doing fuck all. IIRC at 75 BRD could equip something like 30% haste so plenty of gear option available.
