I semi skimmed it, but I feel the jist of it was...

that it was the starting point of Vana'diel. Wasn't much detail beside that from the one CS I got, so I'm assuming the giant-ass crystal in the BC fight was 'the' mothercrystal before it broke off into the five we know of in the normal time stream.

Seems completely incongruent with the game's folklore. There are giant crystals in Prov, and there's a giant crystal in the stories of origin. The devs just seemed to have mashed the two together by virtue of that.

If anything, it makes one question the celestial hierarchy. The area/story wouldn't seem as disjointed if for whatever reason Altana is a lower being than the Prov Watcher, but Altana being a lesser being than anything doesn't sit well in any other way.

The dragon might not be a god or anything, just simply a creature that's been there since the beginning. If you look at other religions, say Norse for example, there isn't a well defined hierarchy where one god has to be higher than another, except in Odin's place as 'father'. But even he doesn't rule everything and has to deal with fate and free will and creatures of the world same as everyone else. Fenrir was a beast that worried him so much he had it bound, and it still killed him in the end.

Not all religions and creation myths and pantheons involve rigidly structured hierarchies where one god reigns supreme with omniscience and omnipotence.

Provenance is the place of creation and destruction where Vana'diel was born and will end. That's what's referenced by the Caits in cutscene. Based on the dialogue, the crystal off in the distance in Provenance is indeed the Mother Crystal and the stone/crystal referenced in the game's opening cutscene. In fact, the Caits specifically reference the line "it all began with a stone" in their dialogue.

Provenance Watcher is made out of crystal, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to assume that it is just an extension of the Mother Crystal manifest as a dragon to protect itself from destruction. The names of some of its TP moves also reference creation and destruction fairly explicitly.

Beguiling Radiance: Strategema Knife (known), Pensee Earring, Canute's Helm
Maddening Radiance: Nikko-Ichimonji, Folhardi Ring
Seductive Radiance: Myrmex Mittens (known), Wanion Belt (known), Bryoja's Staff (known)

Those are the Glimmering Trove drops, so I assume there are three from each (maybe one more rare thing, but it seems more likely that the rare drops just come from the mobs themselves). Also two different hands abjurations are reported as dropping from the mobs directly in Seductive (we already saw F.Abj there in the post above, so there's at least one more).

They killed the Provenance Watcher on JP Wiki apparently. Sanus Ensis and one body abjuration (likely all of them) as confirmed Glimmering Trove drops. Nothing from the Watcher itself, at least not in the one fight. Atmacite of Provenance confirmed from Watcher.

More information on the fetters: they come in eight colors, one for each element. Each of them has an aura (for example, the dark one has a doom aura). According to the JP Wiki, dark/fire/earth/water can be damaged by physical, wind/ice/thunder/light damaged by magical.

Watcher casts tier 3-5 single target nukes, tier 3-4 gas, Comet, Meteor, Holy, Holy II, and various AoE debuffs (Diaga III, Silencega, Blindga, AoE addle, AoE stun).

I always thought Altana was fairly weak as a goddess. I can't even imagine if there was a hierarchy that she'd be in the top tier. She's just the goddess that created the five races. I mean she just straight up laid there while Atomos full on rode up and started having his way on her shit. For a goddess she sure seems to let mortals do a lot of her tussling, especially against other gods.

You could also consider the Watcher like an avatar. Those guys live in protocrystals. Would make sense a big bad one, or even a few big bads, would live in the Mothercrystal. Those things have supposedly been around forever but they're not really gods.

In before Summoner's wanting Crystal Dragon summons.

Don't really see how Atomos 'had his way' when he was created specifically for a purpose and carried out his task as directed. Atomos devours alternate realities and Altana through the Caits planned to send Lilith's future to the scrapbin after creating her ideal Vana'diel prime.

If anything, Altana is a pretty standard "old world" goddess by our human standards in that she isn't completely good or evil but merely a shade of gray depending on your perspective relative to her plans. She isn't afraid to interfere with mortal affairs when she pleases but at the same time she can go non-interventionist just when her creations require divine intervention most.

She had her plan to keep Promathia from dying and that worked out well for the 5 races of Vana'diel Prime but her plans to have Lilith's future erased amounted to abandoning the people of that universe and could certainly be seen as 'evil' as Lilith did. In Abyssea she once again basically flips her cosmic table and watches as Promathia becomes Shinryu and does nothing.

Altana works in mysterious ways and by mysterious she uses a dartboard to determine if shits will be given regarding the universes. It doesn't help either that SE continuously adds things to the lore that step on the toes of pre-existing lore.

Provenance is the beginning? Was the stone mentioned in the original opening CS not the crystal pre-split that became the various mothercrystals that sustain Vana'diel?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the KI does drop in a particular fight randomly, everyone who needs it gets it right? I got 2 of them while going through clears, and it seemed like when my mule got one so did the rest of the alliance.
