New Font Issue.

First of all, I would like to applaud Square Enix for at least trying to make the game more visually appealing after 9 years. That being said, the new "high resolution" font they have chosen has some serious kerning issues. From a designer, and amateur game developer's stand point it's really distasteful and looks rushed.





If this issue bothers anyone else, please let them know on the official forums!

Fuck that, I want my olde font back. It's ridiculous to have 2 types of fontage in the game. It's especially noticable when you have a stack of anything in your inventory, two different fonts side-by-side. They could have at least made it global to ALL the scripting in the game, not just names. Anyone got a patch so I can has my pretties back?

May I ask which aspect ratio you are currently using? (ie. 16:9, 16:10, 4:3 etc)

But then again, I was the one who started the thread when IKEA switched fonts in their catalogue. If they fixed the kerning issue, I'd be pleased. Is this something easily fixed?

The spacing is terrible. I'm using widescreen 16:9 or 16:10 I believe.

The difficulty lies in making the font appear properly across multiple devices and aspect ratios. It may be a time consuming, trial and error type of process.

On another note it seems that XI View (3rd Party UI tweaks) has adopted the new Font.

Patched for 5/9/11. Currently using new SE default HD font text for on screen data such as damage and names.

I'll have to double check which res I have :9 or :10. I know that the stuff like LS lists are fine, but on screen names seem to be poorly spaced.

The kerning issue bugged me too (ok I'll admit to being a font-nazi quite freely)... the other thing that's doing my head in with it is the fact that when I approach a character the name flickers - going to drive me nuts.

I noticed the kerning but really not giving two shits about it since at least the names are now much crisper and easier to read than they were before. Just wish they would had changed all the fonts and icons while they were at it.

I noticed the odd spacing issue in the pic that was posted (before I logged in) but after I logged in I didn't notice it at all.. am using 16:10 aspect ratio, would post pics but I'm not at home.

One thing I dont like about the new type style is that it is more difficult to read far away names (that makes me sound old).

Overall I like the change and hope that it's only just the begining of an overhaul.

The format for font font.dds in the UI .dat was changed. Changing to a previous file results in names, menus, and some other stuff being gibberish.

The kerning doesn't bother me, and I like the new font however:

is an irritant. It's harder to read names far away because of the flicker.
