from what I know the guy who restored it got it for like $1000 bucks lol (so was probably a total piece of crap with a fuckton of miles). I swear he looked like he was peeing his pants when the bids started going over $100,000. Most of the cars (that I saw) sold for around $40k-$50k. Adding to the drama, the 23-window bus restored by David Nevarez, of Victorville, had been given to him for free nearly 10 years ago by a friend.

Donny Damron, the owner of Pharmacy Boardshop in Victorville, said he bought the bus for $1,200 from an Apple Valley mailman who drove it for work until the engine caught on fire. The engine and interior had been severely damaged.

"I gave it to (Nevarez) because he always helps me with my cars," Damron said, adding that he's been passionate about Volkswagen microbuses since he was 16. "I felt like he was the only person that could bring life back to that bus."

Nevarez, a 42-year-old who makes his living painting cars, said the bus wasn't a jewel by any means. It was sitting in his backyard for two years before he began restoring it.

It took him seven years to restore the vehicle, costing him $30,000 to $40,000 and listening to his wife complain all along, he said.

4/10 of are central cali, where there is a lot of nothing with farmland in between the nothing. Blame the Mexicans pickin fruit out there but the truth is there isn't much law enforcment beyond the CHP and state police in those areas. Your car gets stolen good luck getting the cops to give a shit. It's a soft place for grand theft.
