It's entirely plausible he's just parroting what he's been taught, but it's also possible he's just a very intelligent young person. Personal anecdote: my mom likes to tell her friends about how her colleague (another teacher) would have to remind herself that she was speaking to a child when I would talk to her. We'd chit-chat for 5-10 minutes like two average adults. I was in 3rd grade.
