Like I said... you clearly just don't understand the implications.

Richer people can afford to do more shit. This means they use services like roads, safety administrations, food protection, etc. etc. more extensively than, say, the guy throwing eggs and vienna sausage in a nasty ass styrofoam bowl in the microwave.

Further, richer people own more property (duh). Therefore theft prevention, financial legitimacy regulation, quality control requirements, etc. etc. are all more beneficial the richer you are.

I can go on and on. Almost everything the government does, the richer you are, the more you use it. This even includes welfare, because you use more insurance than anyone else.

I hate to parrot archi but this pretty much puts it most simply:

Until the rich in the U.S. are paying equally percentage wise, and on top of that a bit more due to the frequency of use factor, no legitimate argument can be made for the rich not paying more without going into trickle-down bullshit, hence the last 30 years of republican arguments.

this is true, but your grasp of economic theory is really limited plow. you just described lots of public goods and club goods. these things will be there whether rich people drive their bwms around or buy overpriced meat at whole foods or not. additionally, "richer people" don't extensively consume the most expensive of public products, like the jail system, medicare, welfare, social security, etc. idk where you got the idea that insurance is a public offering.

it could be said that "richer people" consume less and pay more into the system. in fact, "richer people" are the ones buying t-bills and other government securities. you do the math.

He does have a point though, in that wealthy people benefit more than average people from poor people being in jail, as they have more shit to protect from criminals.

But still, we're talking 4.2% of the amount earned over 372k+ a year being affected by eliminating the "bush tax cuts on the rich". Are you particularly concerned about that solanis?

holy shit lol, its mind blowing that she isnt really getting those arguments & calling darius a troll while throwing around "socialist" as a four letter word.

As an aside, I always wondered why there wasn't/isn't more of a push to add additional tax brackets? 380k as the highest bracket is just stupid. i can think of a couple silly rationalizations some may use, but is there any compelling reason?

that's a lot of money archi! zoolander, for the last fucking time I'm a guy. stop misgendering me as a wealthy individual, socialism is a four-letter word to me. kind of like how meritocracy would be to you.

That's $0 to about 99.4% of the US population, and an eminently disposable amount for the other 0.6%

But simply put, you either want taxes to go up on the rich, or taxes to go up on other people - because the amount of spending cuts necessary to balance the budget without revenue increasing are impossible.

Not painful, not "everyone tightening their belts" - impossible. Won't happen.

I'm okay with necessary increases on EVERYONE, not just the rich, once the government starts spending money responsibly. we can't shoulder the entire country's burden of our fucked up government.
