You don't exist in a bubble, you're born from others, you live with others, and you wouldn't be sucessful without other people around to either help you or for you to use.

you have no idea how bad it was when I was just a kid I didn't know about tax-avoidant investment strategies so my gains got positively eaten by taxes. my new accountant is a genius though, the biggest problem is that I live in manhattan, where we get wrung out for every last drop. clearly you've never lived in a major city or had significant gains from investments. my current taxes are the result of some serious prestidigitation, I paid a lot more once upon a time when I was young (like 13-14) and didn't know how to manage the results of my success. it's borderline hilarious that suddenly so many of you are tax experts! The argument isn't that "you're already rich so you can afford more." thats half of it. The argument is.. that if the choice is between cutting funding for poor people, seniors, disabled people, children and women or reverting taxes to Clinton era on those that can afford it - I would choose the latter.
