Riots in London

Supposedly, the reason the police are so reserved about using tear gas/water cannons/bean bags/rubber bullets, is because we haven't done it on the mainland either ever, or in recent memory. This makes the politicians/higher ups hesitant to agree and accept the use of higher levels of force against their own citizens. If you ask me it seems none of the higher ups wants to be the one to say it, thats why I sort of want this to escalate just one small step further to where they give police their full armory and let them use it. That way any further riots can be quelled quicker since there'll be no hesitation to use it.

Speaking to an Irish friend earlier he tells me when even the slightest discontent starts in Dublin they just roll out the riot police and beat anything that moves. How it should've been here from the start.

Also, it probably doesnt help that our Police Commissioner resigned from the recent phone hacking scandal. The acting one is probably completely in over his head.

The police want to use it as a "last resort" type thing (before calling in the army ofc). Here in the UK we have something called restraint and normally it works great, but this is a special and rare case that needs some tall orders from the higher-ups.

So sad to see a country I once served for reduced to this, makes me fucking sick, I bet if ordinary people started beating the shit out of them and setting their shit on fire, it would be the very police they're throwing shit at they would call to help them.
I live in a smallish town about 20 miles from Liverpool, there was about 40ish police hanging outside and inside the Asda waiting for this to happen here, in a small ass town, shit is crazy.

I guess its just a total difference in culture that has me so baffled. You fuck with police in America and you get face rolled but if you fuck with police in the UK you get... free shit and a giant party where you get to destroy anything you want?

I just wonder how the people in charge are going to be able to explain this to the citizens. I mean, how do you justify letting people burn and destroy so much property because you are afraid if you use force you might hurt them? They are rioters, they don't deserve an apology if they get hurt. They've disrupted the lives and destroyed the livelihood of countless people in their own communities.

the government needs to stop trying to save their reputation of never having to use tear gas or rubber bullets and take some kind of initiative. i never thought i'd ever live to see the day where i stuck up for fucking police, but man this is insane. if this is all for the glorification of a government's ego, they just need to suck it the hell up, man lol. right now, no country is better than the next.

we were raised under the supervision of cops who will take the situation into their own hands even if it makes putting a bullet in your brain a part of their daily job, and to us thats completely normal lol. but over there, i guess its unheard of. which i understand, norway was the same way too. the cops there dont even carry guns over in Askim. but when situations like this arrise, you HAVE to take some kind of initiative

I agree that in this case force is needed (and it has been given... late) but shooting first and seeing the damage after is, I guess, too american for our government. Innocent people will be getting fucked up/killed if the police roll in with guns, cos you know the rioters will just bring out their guns and it would just get messy. Tunnel vision comes to mind.

@ Sta: I respect your point of view on this, but it seriously makes me wonder what solution can come of this? The police aren't going to suppress the rioters, and the rioters will grow in pseudo-balls with every successful riot. Its not like they're just going to get bored of senseless destruction and theft, and what of the public? Are they really content to sit around and let this happen for what could be weeks? I don't know what the average mindset is in England, but I know that in the states, innocent people would rise up and rise quickly, especially in rural areas. That mess would -not- be happening in a republican area.
