    Gonna get ugly.
^ That's ridiculous, having to have people defend themselves - what about elderly people who own busnisses?

I know its technically illegal to do so, but we should just get the army in to help police the streets, it seems much more sane then telling people to beat looters with weapons.

There have been riots in the UK before so it is a surprise they are having so much trouble dealing with this. Is it because these riots are spread out all across the nation or because the last large scale riots were a generation ago and they've forgotten how to deal with it (or would end up on Youtube if they dealt with it the same way)?

Because this is by far the largest riot in recent history AND it's spread out over 10-15 towns/cities. there are 4-5 that are large-scale but the rest are groups of 20-30 men copycatting the London riots. Now the police have permission to use certain force the riots are being controlled rather well in London and the Midlands.

I read it more as "don't be afraid of getting in trouble for severely beating rioters, it's cool".

Wouldn't you want to defend your property if someone was trying to break in to it? Police are just reminding people they're perfectly within their legal rights to do so.

    Hold on, Hold on!

Is UK police now using excessive force to put down their populace and people are cheering them for it?

I like your spirit, but that lacks any sort of flare.
