Just keep in mind, that 5 dollars is now officially the only part of that money you'll ever see returned. (though, I doubt he was going to pay you anyways)
Your friends are fucking stupid. If he owes you 20 and has enough to play poker, he should pay you first. Them trying to make analogies and shit is stupid, saying you need to get it on your own time is stupid. Noone wants to borrow 20 from a friend and then have the friend hound them constantly on if they are gonna pay them back soon. Common courtesy is when you have 20 bucks you can miss, you pay them back asap.
Get your money the only way you can, they don't like it then maybe they shouldn't borrow money they can't properly prioritize to pay back. That's bitch shit.
It's fucking 20 bucks between friends. You guys seriously can't work something out maturely?
Your friends are terrible.
lol what the fuck OP never said the debt is $20 bucks, you guys are terrible.
naw correction used it as an example and everyone else can't read
The amount owed is negligible (but it was higher than 20 bucks), I dont mind giving money if someone needs it, but at the same time, if someone asks to borrow money, I expect it returned (regardless if its 5 or 50).
They came up with more bullshit stories, which made no sense. "it makes the game easy for you since you cant lose"...yet I remember putting and giving my share of the 5$ when I lost to one of them. Then they're saying that "were not comfortable playing like this because it'll change how we bet"...what the fuck. How does me collecting the money I'm owed from person B affect how anyone bets? I wasnt even taking their share of the winnings they got from the other players, I just kept my ante if they won.
The one talking the nonsense above, and saying that I'd get taken out back and beaten if I did that in a poker house (collect someone elses winnings to clear a debt they owe), is black actually...
"ok well we all agreed, ur debt is seperate and aint allowed in the game, money first on the table and if they opt to give you their winnings its up to them, but the debt is seperate"
"You lent the money, its ur biz, handle it yourself but a game is a game bro. I've lent money and got it back b4 no problems, doubt youre any different"
Does this make any sense? I guess money earned from poker is different money?
If you're playing a $5 game where the winner is the only person with chips remaining, and person A wins, then docking is totally fine.
If you're playing a cash game, however (every hand people bet certain amounts of money), then you should have paid him his money, since it's not technically his until you've all decided that the game is over (that five dollars could have changed hands in a larger bet, which couldn't have happened unless you paid him).
Never loan anyone money, period. If you do, don't expect a dime back.
It's not rocket science. Also, lol at this thread.
My rule of thumb is that I never lend money to friends that I can't afford to lose. I consider it a gift that they can pay back if they want to. It works well, as they show me the same courtesy if I'm in need of money.
