Oh good hell! Sony Pictures has announced that they will release a sequel to Smurfs on August 2nd 2013. This is what the world is coming to people. This is what happens when people opt to go see Smurfs instead of Cowboys & Aliens, which is what happened this weekend. Smurfs has brought in about $135 million dollars world wide so far, which is enough for the studio to get a sequel moving forward. As of right now producer Jordan Kerner is the only person attached to the project, but I'm sure they can easily pump out a sequel. After all, it doesn't take much brain power to develop a movie like this. I will add that even though I hate that these kinds of movies get made, at least it is creating jobs for people in an economy that sucks ass. I just wish they got that work working on a better film project.

also sometimes people bitch too much. It is a children's film. Only super serious adult films should get sequels? If kids liked it, they liked it.

There's a comedy film review podcast called How Did This Get Made? [NSFW just for language probably] who reviewed it. It sounds, not really too surprisingly, terrible.

From the review, it seems like they tried to make a kids movie that parents could like, but failed at that and that made it too adult for kids to really get it.

There is kids entertainment that can be clever and work on a few levels. Things like Animaniacs, Spongebob, and Freakazoid for example.

Then there is kids entertainment that attempts to be "edgy" to poorly inject things that go straight over kids heads like glossed-over sex jokes, or cussing. Which I'm guessing this crap is.

Thats what I get for selectively reading. Well from what I've seen it did reasonably well at the box office for a film thats supposed to be crappy, so I'm not completely surprised they are planning one already.

I brought my five year old daughter to see it.. At one point in the movie, the crowd starts laughing, and I look over at her and she is just staring forward.. She looks over at me and says "that wasn't funny".. Afterwards she said she liked the movie, but even at five, I could tell she knew it wasn't very good..
