Doesn't really deserve it's own thread but this is relevant to Firefox.

    http://browserquest.mozilla.org/

Demo of what HTML5 is capable of; essentially the future of web design, and by extension computing in general. It can save your profile based off of your MAC Address so you never have to have profiles, and can fully utilize hardware acceleration.

    Essentially:

    - Firefox developers were bored
    - Fuck you Adobe, and Flash too.

    This is pure html5?

Impressive. Cpu usage is absurd though (it's maxing out one core on my 2.2 ghz phenom 2).

    Old CPU, not a surprise.

HTML5 has its own specs. Typically it is resource intensive, but it can do amazing things.

Same reason everyone bitches about Flash, and it still has that issue of not being as neat and tidy as a SWF embed, nor full browser compatibility yet.

Or HTML5 even being finalized for that matter.

"Hope you enjoy this 1000x500 resolution very basic sprite game with networking capabilities taking up a full CPU core."

They need to get it faster and less demanding, the whole point was to make something that's friendlier for mobile devices to use since Flash was such a resource hog. At any rate....

I tend to not trust anything web designers say, as most of it is pure industry wank and empty buzzwords about "future" for the sake of future. These are the guys who thought tabs on top was a good idea.

Nothing wrong with tabs on top, though I split mine. My URL bar is on the bottom and the tabs are on top.

Nothing, they just stopped using sub versions. v12 is obviously better than 4.2.7, duh.

Official? Waiting for it to get shoved out to the release channel then. I don't want to get on the beta channel by accident. ^^

Excuse the double post guys, but..

OK, got it now. A tip for those who install this on older pcs; something called smooth scrolling is on by default on Firefox 13; on older pcs it doesn't work right at all(it's all herky-jerky). To get the old style scroll back; Go to tools==>options==>advanced and remove the checkmark in the "Use Smooth Scrolling" box. Right now on older pcs, it's better to have it off.

If you want an alternative you can try the Smoothwheel or Yet Another Smooth Scrolling extension, either works well

For me, I think it's the fact my PC is a old fashioned single core processor. It does most things I ask it to but the smooth scrolling was not only jerky, but it was making text look like it'd been cut in half and staggered in random spots. (prolly because it eats processor power). Disabling it fixed the problem.

Luckily that's my only quibble; otherwise it works like a dream and is a lot faster. ^^

Firefox is irking me a bit. I upgraded from 3.6 to 12 a few weeks ago. It's definitely leaking memory, if 3.6 was leaking anything then it's incomparable to this imo. Some of the added functionality is nice, but I'm really not liking how I have to restart it every now and then.

Firefox 14 official release is out.

All I can say about it is the awesome bar looks really wierd (no more favicon, just a icon that shows if page ids itself or not and the security; favicons are in teh tabs tho) but that's it.

Oh and for those on this, someone DID make a extension to bring back the status bar widgets and progress indicators for the newer browsers. It's Status4Evar if anyone here is missing that from when they started doing this really fast release schedule. It's one of my standard addons btw. ^^

Anyone constantly get failures to update? I'm on the beta channel so they come through more frequently than the normal releases but it's not uncommon to have to manually download the update because they just keep failing.

Not using nightly builds. Occasionally it will try to reopen before it finishes closing, which prevents it from updating, but restarting it again always fixes that.
