You're not missing much. I don't think the show has the same spark it did after S3.

Though the Weird Al ep was good.

Yea that's why I stopped tbh. What I noticed when I stopped is they stopped doing their own thing and conforming to the brony fan base (at least imo seemed what it was like) and thent it really changed for the worst

S3 was the worst season in my opinion. There are definitely lots of really good (and some really wtf) episodes in the seasons after. A couple of my favorites are S5: Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep? (that fucking title, man) and S6: A Hearth's Warming Tail, which is a musical episode with bunch of pretty good songs.

I don't disagree that the brony pandering has gotten out of hand (best seen in the S5 episode "Slice of Life"), but I actually don't mind it too much because it's never so far as to be inappropriate, it's just really silly and weird to see the fan canon be accepted into the actual show. Then again MLP isn't something that should be taken too seriously to begin with.

Catching up with the show right now, about halfway through S6 and pretty impressed by how the quality of the episodes has stayed relatively high.

Yeah that's how I felt. Don't get me wrong there are a few good eps out there still, but most of them are meh or just flat out appeal and no substance.

Then you get stuff I don't even know how to explain it other than drugs were involved. S6 finale is a prime example.
