The reason TOR and TERA are hemorrhaging subscribers has less to do with a lack of development effort than you might imagine. Folks plow through the accessible content in a month then stop playing. You'll notice the feeble attempts at stopping this with FFXIV's 'fatigue' system. DQX's version of this is a consumable-based XP boost that borrows from WoW's 'rested XP' and is a much better idea. But this is not the only hurdle to clear. The subscription cost is still a huge problem.
