Having been here long enough to see what I imagine to be at least several thousand Korean girls, I can honestly say not that many are super attractive. That being said, Korean celebrity girls like Hyuna (posted above) are not nearly as good looking at just normal Korean girls, in my opinion. Can't find a great picture of her, but my best friend Myeongshil is super cute, not grossly thin like most Korean girls, and overall pretty awesome. This is us + another friend at their graduation a few months ago

Yeah, it is. More so in Seoul than down here where I am though. Still, it's common to hear stories like parents getting their daughters surgery to make their eyes look bigger (double eye-lid surgery) as a high school graduation present. I even know a few guys that have gotten things like nose jobs. If I ask my college students what percentage of celebrities have had plastic surgery, they will all quickly shout out 100%

Yea my friend went to Korea with her family to visit and her parents practically forced her to have double eyelid surgery. I was pretty upset with it cause she looked fine to begin with and the thought of her parents forcing her to change the way she looks for their sake disgusted me.

Kinda long story, but relevant to the discussion ^^;

My husband's parents have had alot of trouble with my being a white American girl, but we didn't give them very much say in the matter. We got married while he was in the US studying at my college, and already had a baby before they ever met me. I don't ever recall them saying a kind word to me, but at least they do adore our kids. I know my husband has fights with them about money fairly often; they own the apartment we live in, but since last year have refused to help us with any other expenses. My mother-in-law tried to move in with us this spring to "help teach our kids since I'm incapable because I don't speak enough Korean," and she was trying to force us to get rid of our cats because she says she's allergic. I basically left the apartment and refused to return until she left, and when she finally did apparently she said at the end of our housing contract next spring, we will have to buy our own apartment because they would not renew the contract where we are now and wouldn't pay for a new place for us. Tensions have eased a bit over the summer, but I'm still unsure what will happen in the spring. I still refuse to see either of his parents, though I do let the kids visit from time to time.

edit: About the plastic surgery thing... yeah, I've seen it alot. My husband had surgery on his jaw around highschool I think. At least our kids don't need to worry about the whole double eyelid thing, they look pretty western already due to my half of their genes ^^;
