    You really can't believe that?

    Really?

Maybe I'm just too cynical, but there was no doubt in my mind at all that it was going to end this way.

    It's not over.

It's a combination of activist fatigue, heavy handed opposition, and winter. I'll be really surprised if there isn't a big resurgence sometime between March~April.

What matters right now, and the question is, how will it come back? Are people just going to start trying to take parks again, are they going to stop practicing non-violence, are they going to focus more heavily on active protesting and community outreach, etc. We haven't seen the end of OWS, and we definitely haven't seen the end of a new wave of protests. Shit is still broken, and it's continuing to get worse rather than the other way around, so I would expect more to come in the near future.

I watched 3hrs of the march after New Years, on TimCast at ustream. The officer who got minor cuts on his hands continued on-duty, didn't sound like a stabbing to me. Anyways, the cops were arresting people mostly arbitrarily during the march. At one point, the streamer, Tim, overheard some of the higher-ups saying something along the lines of "If you can get me 2 of them, I'd be happy." just before they barricaded people via scooters and bodies against a wall and made random arrests. They allowed Tim to get out just before the arrests happened. At this point, he noted how the police were allowing all the livecasters to leave before making arrests as they were ordered earlier in the week to take better precautions on handling press/livecasters. Basically preventing any outside film of the arrests except their own mobile photographer unit. (this feels eerily similar to the Israeli military tactics)

Later down the march, the group shrank from 500+ to about 60 and then the police decided to call it a night at around 3am and proceeded to form a scootercade in the front of the march and told everyone that they were impeding a pedestrian walkway and would be arrested if they did not disburse. Well, once they blocked them in front, they also formed another scootercade behind them and along the parked cars on the side. When the protestors asked them where can they go, they're surrounded, the cops told them they could exit to the side, upfront, where the crosswalk starts, and this is when they started grabbing those who tried to exit and arresting them.

The caster was then yanked out through the scootercade and hurt his wrist in the process. The cops yelled out "don't fuck with us!" as he was backpeddling and he then crossed the street to look on. A few minutes later a NY Legal Observer was let out and not even a minute later, as he was making a call on his phone, the cops then shouted "put the phone down!" and grabbed for him while he shouted "what's going on?!" and proceeded to arrest him and tossed him into the back of one of the nearby paddywagons.

So, in the end about a dozen or so of the original members of that group of 60 made it out, dude that was casting was dead tired from carrying 40lbs of shit on his back for 8hrs, etc. and ended the cast as they were headed to the precinct where their friends were held.

Pretty intense way to start the New Year, I'd say.

Yeah, as soon as it warms back up, people will be out again.

Doesn't surprise me that it does. The US rides Israel's dick so hard they were bound to start acting like them after awhile.

As far as the "war on drugs" is concerned, the penalties for getting caught will destroy your life far more than the actual responsible use(not all drug use is abuse) of an "illegal" drug. Nearly all of the social problems with drug use are a direct result of prohibition. You can make anything illegal, strawberries for example. Then tomorrow there will be a black market for strawberries, sharing the same increased risks, and as a results price increase, supply reduction, and people willing to use violence to protect their now very valuable commodity. Another result is every single person involved in the cultivation and sale are now branded as criminals and are subject to penalties far worse than the "crime." Prohibition creates crime. Maybe i am just a cynic but its easy to see that some laws are written arbitrarily for those who stand to profit from them.

You're right to be cynical. It's not the first or last time I've heard that argument and it's because you're right.

Not sure if this was posted yet.

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/0...-Rented-Studio

In this still developing story the media team Global Revolution Live has been evicted from their studio by the NYPD and NYC Building Department. This is yet another attack on the media that is telling the world about how we, humanity are being deceived. There will be video to follow and more information as it is uploaded.

Interesting that the entire first floor is what is considered dangerous. The upper floors are fine?

    This stinks.

    http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7173/6...6ac0fd05_b.jpg

According to the google map this was adjacent to Zucotti Park so they could of only been there since September at the earliest. So if this building had an order to vacate since March the landlord just bought himself a lawsuit.

    H/T to Just Bob:

Earlier this morning, Global Revolution Studios was ordered to vacate from their building by the NYPD in conjunction with the building department. It took three separate departments visiting 13 Thames to finally come up with a reason to remove the Global Revolution team with a posted notice despite having all applicable paperwork for the department of buildings in order. The reason given to me by the Global Revolution team is “A made up sprinkler condition.” Supporting this allegation of falsified conditions is that the very same building passed the same inspection standards back in 2011 in the month of November with no comments or concerns as to the buildings integrity or its sprinkler system.
It’s also odd how the first floor and cellar is imminently perilous to human life, and the floors directly above are perfectly fine. Even the person living illegally in the basement is perfectly fine where he is, meaning it’s specifically the area that Global Rev occupies and nothing else. One could accurately allege that this was a direct attack against one of the major voices of the movement and considering Global Revolutions direct affiliation with the Occupy movement; has made it an obvious target for this attack on free speech. The overreaching plan of these actions has been to suppress the ability of Occupy to communicate and to share the movements’ collective stories as they unfurl. By being a nexus of streams and information, authorities are attempting to do a top-down decapitation of the movements’ media coverage by once again isolating the information to the general public.

I know yall dont really care but...

Occupy Tampa got a private park in the city. Joe Redner gave it to us "to use in whatever way we deem fit." Tents, power, water, fire pit...police can do jack shit. Its pretty tight, especially after how horrific our police crackdown on us was in comparison to...pretty much everywhere else. The fact that its OURS and that a 1%er who is a free speech advocate gave it to us is pretty awesome and at least somewhat unique. The location is in West Tampa, and at first we were apprehensive about moving camp to the "hood," but honestly the reception has been pretty awesome and even the most dangerous place in Tampa isn't shit compared to the worst in Oakland, Chicago, etc etc. Plus, this is honestly where we should be anyways. Gotta reach out to the marginalized communities that are clearly all about our message and mobilize them in some way. Obviously talking with them goes fine, but mobilizing is a whole different beast...but shit looks promising so far.

Thumbs up to Joe and hopefully your collective efforts down there are productive.

Wow, surprised there is no mentioning of the over 400 arrests and violence at the Oakland protests on Saturday.

Because my opinion of the Occupy Oakland movement i'm sure differs with the majority of the people here. If they were to get carpet bombed, a tear would not be shed and nothing of value would be lost. But TL;DR, they showed up with rocks, pipes, flares, and bottles of human waste and flung them at cops who had the gall to say they couldn't occupy a vacant convention center and stopped them from cutting down fences and wound up using rubber bullets, tear gas and flash bangs after they were attacked. They also wound up vandalizing city hall and various other buildings.
