I saw the trailers, decided to read the books. The trailer pretty much told me exactly what the story is. Not books #2 and 3, obviously, but the first one? Yeah, I knew exactly what was going on from the trailer.

Agreed. The first one had some cool ideas, even if the execution was a little clumsy. I read the second and third mostly because, well, I hate starting something and not finishing it. They were readable, but nothing I could recommend. Even the Games in the second book seemed rushed and shoehorned in. I'll certainly go see the first movie, but probably not the next two unless I have a major change of heart between now and then.

THE HUNGER GAMES Becomes Fandango's Fastest Selling Movie Ever

Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination, announced today that advance ticketing records were set by Lionsgate's upcoming thriller, "The Hunger Games", which has already sold out hundreds of showtimes in advance of the film's March 23 release date. Even though the film doesn't open for another month, the first-day ticket sales on Wednesday, February 22 broke the previous first day advance ticket-seller record held by "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" on Friday, May 14, 2010.

"'The Hunger Games' is off to a fantastic start," says Rick Butler, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fandango. "Yesterday we saw the biggest first day advance ticketing sales in our company's nearly 12-year history - which is especially impressive for a March release and a non-sequel."

Battle Royale is infinitely superior, and far better cinema too.

I highly recommend that everybody read Battle Royale. If you can't read the book, at least see the film.

Just read the first two books. Looking forward to this more now. However, while I love Woody Harrelson, I didn't picture Haymitch to be anything like him in stature when I was reading the book o.O

I pictured Haymitch a bit stockier when I started reading, but I think Woody fits the personality perfectly. I keep picturing him as the same character he played in Kingpin.

Saw it, it was an ok movie with too much of the important and emotional stuff changed. Things added that did nothing for me. Talking with friends who saw it also, they had most of the same arguments and dislikes.

How would the movie be for those of us that didn't read the book?

Is it worth watching if you think Jennifer Lawrence is ludicrously hot

I think if you haven't read the book, you can get very confused at what's going on. The movie moves very fast. It skims over a lot of things and doesn't go into detail about a whole lot of what is going on. My friend said it was almost like it a fill in the blank movie for those that have read the book.

I actually think I would have enjoyed the movie more (that's not to say I didn't like it, I still thought it was phenomenal movie) if I hadn't already read the book.

    Especially so

Other than the wtf-shaky cam for the first 20 minutes, I thought it was an okay movie.

I read the 1st book last week (maybe a 5 hour read?) and was curious how they were going to do certain things. I really liked the actor for Peeta, he and the crew did a fantastic job bringing the character to life. His character was the only one that was fleshed out and developed.

BOTTOM LINE: Go see 21 Jump Street first. Then Hunger Games.
