Best picture seems pretty boring this year. The Artist will win it though because that's what people pretend to like to seem smart and artsy.

I'm sad to say I've not seen anything on the list this year. I'm not sure if I've just been in a rut for actually picking out good movies or if last year was just that bad of a year for movies.

*Oops I lied, I've seen Bridesmaids.

Man, this year was not that good for movies

I'm upset planet of the apes isn't up there for more considering the competition, and I'm pleasantly surprised pirates4/transformers/MI4 isn't up there.

And nick nolte got a nomination for warrior? :\ the character was kind of inconsistent. He would boss Hardy around in one scene, like a character nick nolte plays should, and then in others(most of them) he would be Hardy's bitch. I thought he was the worst in that movie lol

Even though I haven't seen any of the nominated movies, that sounds like some bullshit right there.

So Glenn Close played a stuffy old British man and got a nomination? Come the &$#$ on ...

People just like to vote for stuff that is all artsy and uninteresting otherwise. Or gives nominations to crap like Hugo just cause of the director's past work.

The Academy also has a track record for 'pity' nominations on venerated actors with multiple nominations but not a single win under their belt. See: John Wayne, Al Pacino, Martin Scorsese.
Glen Close, in that context, is a lock.

Gary Oldman in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy"
    This is all that matters.

And I think for female lead, Michelle Williams will be the upset if there's an upset. Meryl 'I'm fucking boring' Streep and Glenn Close are the favorites.

Didn't you get the unofficial memo? Starting with Forrest Gump, all movies with Tom Hanks are required by law to get at least two Oscar nominations.

Shocking! Drive didn't get anything worth a damn. Rolling Stone gave it 'movie of the year,' or some shit like that. The movie wasn't great, lots of people were riding its cock, didn't get jack shit.

Was Tintin not good (avoid spoilers if possible, as I kinda want to see it regardless)? I haven't seen any of this year's animated movies but I expected that to be one of the better ones.

I guess Lars Von Trier is banned from all these award shows after the stunt he pulled in Cannes. That is too bad, Melancholia was movie of the year.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

ya I noticed that, too. This is the first time ever they haven't had a nomination for anything. Crazy (though as you said, expected).
