I have not been to La Sirene but I've heard it's amazing. Had dinner at Modern on Saturday night though. Shit was boss. Couple of C-suite dudes for my company were in town and I didn't have to pay. Had Hamachi app, soft-boiled egg second, duck entree. Duck was the weakest of the three but pretty solid. We got all the desserts and they were boss.

This is the real reason people get jobs. To eat all the desserts.

Oh man. I forgot the name of it, but they had basically a caramel profiterole that was fucking ridiculously good at La Sirene. We got the regular profiteroles which were also awesome, but the caramel ones were ridiculously good.

Did you bake that broccoli? I'm going to start eating a lot more chicken and need ideas to keep things fresh.

Yep. Cut up two big pieces and mixed with probably 3 tbsps of olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder and 1 tbsp of lite soy in a bowl (Helps the browning)

Oven to 425, cook until the pieces sticking up are pretty browned (Like 20 minutes).

For right now we're using Mrs. Dash for seasoning because my wife's blood pressure is through the roof. I'm ordering a big jug of low sodium soy today as well. I actually really like Dash as a seasoning. Of course, add in whatever else depending on the recipe or just use whatever just minus salt. And Tok, I'm already fat. No more fat!

Be aware that lite soy still has a TON of sodium in it.

    Mustard, Mrs. Dash, pepper sauces

    All good stuff to use.

Hah. I don't eat broccoli like that anymore, I was just being an ass. We usually just steam it with some salt and pepper because it's quick and easy.

If you're looking for something to do with chicken, I'd suggest a chicken souvlaki kind of deal.

Chicken breast cut into cubes. Marinate in salt, pepper, lemon juice, little oregano, garlic, olive oil, and a white wine or rice vinegar. After it sits for a while, skewer it and grill. Serve it with lettuce, tomato, red onion, a lemon wedge, and some tatziki (greek yogurt with grated cucumber, salt, pepper, splash of olive oil, splash of white wine or rice vinegar). Can also serve on pita or something, but if you're trying to cut out that kind of stuff you could easily serve it on a salad like above. Can add some Feta for a little extra.

    ROAST IT.

Steamed veggies are so boring after awhile.

I'm gonna give the pressure cooker another go this weekend with a beef chuck roast. Make some more poboys.

It's really just broccoli that we steam. I usually roast or grill my veggies.

Before I forget, you can do the same thing I described above, but use zucchini, peppers, and eggplant. Don't marinate them, but rub them with olive oil, salt, pepper. I always grill the veggies for this, but I would guess you should be able to get similar results by roasting it.

Also, I brought some of that broth in my hydroflask for lunch. Just grabbed some wheat bread from the deli and dunked it.

    Holy fuck it's good.

And that is the dilemma with most of our meals. We were taking stock in our kitchen over the weekend discussing what we eat and what we use. So many of our meals have soy, fish sauce, sesame oil/sauce, or other sauces that have terrible amounts of sodium in them. It's especially hard on the wife since that's what she's cooked with all of her life. But, her health is saying no to those foods so we're changing it.

Eat the fish without the fish sauce.

It's a shitty shitty transition but you'll be amazed at how salty shit will taste once you'd cut it out for a month.

Same goes for a lot of things. Amazing how much sweeter things taste once I cut sugar. But I love salt and my sodium has always been lower end of acceptable so I'll keep piling that on
