An "Instant Pot" is a shitty pressure cooker and shitty crockpot in one.
If you already have a pressure cooker, get a crockpot for the same effect.
When your kitchen is TINY, it's a passable substitute for a number of different things. The last thing I cooked in it was a london broil with gravy. Instead of taking hourrssss, I was able to quickly brown it, toss some soups in with it, and pressure cook it in 30 min, all in the same pot. Potatoes cooked and turned into mashed in the meantime. Rice taking 10 minutes instead of an hour is pretty nice as well. Is it as good as a standalone pressure cooker? Maybe not. Is it as good as a real saute pan? No. When you have 4 kids and work late every week day it's a lifesaver.
Also, they keep going on sale for $70 which makes them a pretty good choice IMO.
Anyone make picanha before? (Brazillian BBQ style) I was thinking of doing it for Xmas dinner, but I wanna make it beforehand to see how it turns out.
When I read recipes it seems insanely easy, but the recipes tend to have low reviews or little reviews, so I don't know how much to trust them. Figured I'd ask for any tips before trying to find a butcher that will make that cut of meat.
Hey guiz I invented this thing that cooks stuff under pressure but can also be used not under pressure and I called it an instant pot because it cooks stuff faster than not cooking under pressure worship me because I am your God oh wait those things have existed for years and hipsters are only just discovering them now
Everything old is new again (but digital and internet enabled this time) because millennials are dumb af
Nothing hipster about it you grumpy fuck.
They combined two cooking devices into one. They both work as well as the original separate components would.
I don’t have an instant pot but I am all for combining kitchen tools to reduce the amount that are taking over my space. I’ll probably get one eventually to downsize.
I'm too lazy to dig in this thread. I need a simple guac recipe. Have some avocados that need to get done tonight.
Two avocado
juice of half a lime or less
coarse salt
1/2 to 1 clove garlic (depending on size of clove)
Tablespoon or so of diced red onion
serrano or jalapeno rings, to taste depending on how spicy you like it (if at all)
Put garlic, onion, lime juice, salt, and peppers in the bottom of a bowl. Smash it to a paste. Add two avocados and mix it all up. Taste it to see if you want to add anything else.
So I broke out my pressure cooker yesterday for meal prep since I had two recipes to cook, only ever used it for mom's chicken soup recipe before.
Made some cube steak stew/soup with peppers and olives to put over rice, then a quick hand wash and sauteed onions and garlic right in it and dumped in everything else for chicken enchilada soup.
2 recipes ~20min cooking time each, all said and done prepped and whatnot start to finish in under 2 hours total with only about 15 min of actual active time. Crockpot on steroids. Using it for everything now, fuck anyone who bashes an instant pot (it's not that brand but does all the same things). Never tried browning/sauteing in it before such wow.
Just finished. Calling it ghetto guac because we didn't have fresh limes, red onion, or garlic cloves. Still came out pretty good using minced garlic, white onion, lime juice in a bottle, and generic hot sauce for some spice. I plan to start making from home my own rendition of Taco Bell's "Power Bowl" as I find it delicious and not a boatload of calories.
guac is a fucking boatload of calories.
If you ain’t got an Instantpot, get one! It is magical!
