    Notes:

    - Character description;

    Spoiler: show
Oliver Queen: A 27-year-old reformed bad boy, who after having spent five years shipwrecked on a tiny, brutally dangerous island in the South China Sea returns to town a different man. Or to be more specific, a tortured, thoughtful master of the bow with a ferocious determination to make a difference.

Dinah “Laurel” Lance: 28 years old, smart sexy, Laurel is a legal aid attorney determined to use her life as a one-woman war against the 1% following the death of her younger sister Sara. A sister, who as luck would have it, just so happened to have died aboard Oliver’s yacht.

Tommy Merlyn: 28 years old and devil-smooth, Tommy is a trustafarian like Oliver, a spectacularly rich young man whose life revolves around parties, clubs, liquor and lots of anonymous sex. Unlike Oliver, he can’t seem to understand his former best friend’s sudden change of lifestyle and direction.

Moira Queen: 48 years old, a beautiful woman, Oliver’s mother Moira is a very wealthy woman who is not used to being shaken. Having remarried during the five years that former husband Robert and Oliver were both presumed dead, Moira has had free rein over the Queen billions. Not surprisingly, she’s deeply interested in learning whether or not Robert will also return unexpectedly, to ruin her present marriage and go over the books with a fine-tooth comb.

John Diggle: 35 years old, African-American, Diggle is really, really big, a former military man who served with the Army Rangers in Afghanistan, and has been a bodyguard for hire for the last four years. Hired by Moira to be Oliver’s chauffeur and protector, Diggle soon finds he is trapped in a battle of wits, as Oliver repeatedly eludes his protection. But in fact, Diggle’s primary conflict is one of loyalty — he has to show that he’s working for Oliver, not Moira, before Oliver will give him a smidgen of trust.

Thea Queen: 17 years old (suggest 17-22 years), Oliver’s Lolita-esque sister, Thea was a 12 year old girl when he went on his infamous yachting voyage — but now she’s a celebutante who’s testing the boundaries of acceptable behavior. Thea loved her big brother with all her heart, and is delighted to have him back in her life — but she’s spreading her wings, and is unprepared for Oliver to become the Bad Cop in the family, restricting her access to boys and drugs.

The CW has found its Green Arrow. Deadline reports that Stephen Amell has been cast in the lead role in the drama pilot Arrow. The pilot is being directed by David Nutter and written/executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti, and Marc Guggenheim.

Warner Bros. TV is producing the project that is described as "a modern retelling of the story of DC Comics character Green Arrow." Amell will play "the vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, martial arts and technology under his secret identity as Oliver Queen, a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist-turned-outspoken politician in Star City."

Amell has guest-starred on The Vampire Diaries, 90210, and most recently, recurred on HBO’s Hung and ABC’s Private Practice. The actor was also in talks to replace Andy Whitfield in the lead of Spartacus.

Pretty much my thought on this. It's kind of sad to see they aren't going with him considering he got snubbed for the role of Aquaman show back before he was on Smallville.

As we reported earlier, the CW is bringing the Green Arrow back to the small screen in a new series called Arrow, which they hope will replace the void left by Smallville. Last week, it was announced that Stephen Amell was cast in the lead role. I love the idea of Green Arrow getting his own TV series, and I hope they are able to successfully pull it off.

We have a little more detail on what we can expect to see from the series and according to CW head Thom Sherman, it will be less 'comic book-y' and more grounded in reality like Jason Bourne.

It’s a very provocative and sophisticated and edgy. It’s not as comic book-y as Smallville or other [superhero projects] from other networks.

He doesn’t have any superpowers, he’s a very grounded character like a Jason Bourne — we use the term ‘mambo'. His skill-set is that he’s an archer, but he also has physical strength and prowess. He’s clever and able to devise ways of taking down a bad guy that are unique and fun to watch.
I can't really argue with that statement, because it makes perfect sense for the character. So far, I like what I'm hearing about the direction they are planning on taking the series and this character. It makes me wonder though, if he will actually be putting on a superhero costume. I guess we'll eventually find out.

The Green Lantern co-writers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim came up with the idea for the show and wrote the story. They will produce the series alongside Fringe and Vampire Diaries writer Andrew Kreisberg, whom they brought in to write the script. Kreisberg also wrote DC Comics’ Green Arrow and Black Canary. David Nutter will direct the pilot.

Gossip Girl, Melrose Place and Supernatural alumna Katie Cassidy is back at the CW as the female lead in the network’s pilot Arrow. The Warner Bros TV-produced project, a modern retelling of the story of DC Comics character Green Arrow, stars Stephen Amell as the vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, martial arts and technology under his secret identity as Oliver Queen, a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist-turned-outspoken politician in Star City. Cassidy will play Laurel, a young legal clinic attorney who shares a romantic past with Oliver. (In the comics, the character, Dinah “Laurel” Lance, has a superhero alter ego, Black Canary.) In Arrow, Cassidy joins Amell and Susanna Thompson, who was cast yesterday as Oliver’s mother, Moira Queen. David Nutter is directing the pilot, written/executive produced by Andrew Kreisberg, Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim. On the feature side, Cassidy, repped by CAA and Anonymous Content, was most recently seen in Monte Carlo.

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

According to executive producer Marc Guggenheim, we might actually see Green Arrow team up with Batman in the new CW series Arrow! This would be extremely cool! This is something that we never were able to see happen in Smallville because of Christopher Nolan's batman franchise. Now that Nolan's Dark Knight franchise is over, the CW might be able to use the character in their TV series.

Here's what Guggenheim had to say in a recent interview with <redacted> when asked about seeing any DC universe allies in the series,

I would say, “Probably.” One of the things we want to do is roll the show out at the right pace. For the most part, I think we’ve taken the philosophy that things are happening sooner rather than later. I always feel like every time we get the note from the network, “Is this happening too soon?,” I feel like we’re on the right track. I know as a viewer myself, I’m impatient. I want to see stuff. We’re not going to make the audience wait to see characters, plot twists, revelations. I think running out of great characters and great moments is a quality problem to have, and I just want to have them.
He's then asked specifically about Bruce Wayne/Batman making an appearance in the series to which he replied,

Oh, my hope is that we can use him at some point. I think that plagued the Smallville showrunners more than it plagues us because, obviously, the Dark Knight Trilogy is over. They’re not available to us yet. My hope is that they’ll be available to us at some point. That would be awesome. No question, that would be absolutely awesome. But I don’t know. That’s above my pay grade.
It was also recently reported that Green Arrow villains China White (played by Kelly Hu) would appear in episode 2 and Deadshot (played by Michael Rowe) would appear in episode 3.

Saw the first Episode when I went to Comic-Con, was very unimpressed. More info in spoiler.

    Spoiler: show
The show is definitely catered to the teen drama crowd, there's a lot of emotional bullshit in the first episode already (teen using drugs, cheating on your g/f sister, best friend dating said ex, etc.) The character Oliver Queen is completely unlikeable, he kills people with no remorse, he acts like a complete dick to push people away under the pretense of "protecting them," and his entire motivation is a Robin Hood-esque steal from the rich and give to the poor thing. The entire show is really cliche' and feels more like a teen drama than an actual superhero show, but that may be what they're going for, the Smallville crowd.

I think they have hopes of getting the Smallville crowd, especially pairing this show up now with Supernatural, but I just don't see it happening. Most of the Smallville fans, myself included, really hate that this show doesn't have Justin Hartley playing Oliver again and aren't going to give it a fair shot because of that. Plus the Smallville crowd is sorta 25-35 age bracket and not really teen drama crap, so if they're targeting that demographic and hoping to attract Smallville's viewers, I think they have horribly researched who watched Smallville.

Would love to see Deathstroke and Deadshot being portrayed finally. Always loved them from DC and they never really got the exposure they needed.
