All signs point toward absolutely no ability to choose which floor you start on.

Bravo SE, you actually managed to come up with a *worse* cockblock on gear than .1% drop rates.

.... This is so fucking stupid.
First you have to hope you're lucky enough to be able to get to floor 60/80/100 in 30 minutes, then you have to hope that you get the piece you want to drop from a pool of 15 pieces of equipment with certain pieces likely being lower drop rate than others, increasing the random factor. It isn't worth wasting the 30 minutes each run to do the event.
i believe the patch notes said you -always- start on 1
ugh, this 30 minute waiting is such a pain in the arse..
Personally, after the cockup that was our WHM taking us to floor 26 I'm surprised at how lucky we were to get close to 40.
Added in floor objectives to previous post.
Alexandrite you'll never see because pouches only drop from bosses and you want to skip all the floors before 100 because everything earlier is strictly worse.
Seriously SE, way to *completely* fuck up a system where all you needed to do was copy something that already existed.
From a floor 20 Boss, basically a squishy version of Medusa.
Waiting 30 minutes to go again D:

There must be a gimmick to it. There's no feasible way to reach higher floors to get the better armor with only 30 minutes.
not that it's any less stupid, but you can probably get the item from Floor20/40, and do a trial to make it +2,3,etc
So the minimum jump you do can be 2
Floor 1: Lamps Same Time, Barbastelle (NM)
Floor 8: Specified Enemies - Puddings x3 :: AGI boost
Floor 16: Enemy leader, Pistolium Chariot (LBC) - Used Homing Missile, but was otherwise a pussy. :: Weaponskills restricted
Floor 18: Kill all, Chocoboleech, Ghillie Dhu
Floor 19: Specified Enemies - Heraldic Imps x..4?, Numbing Norman
Floor 20: Stheno - Medusa Boss - Used Petrifaction (single target petrify) -> Calicifying Deluge (conal petrify and ~600 damage) -> Gorgon Dance (AoE ~13' petrify, not sight based)
Then we left, our appraisals were shit and we got no drops including Alexandrite. Next run has a Thief.
Edit: 597 tokens with leader
You have an extremely rare chance to get the good gear, this is no different than voidwatch drops really.
I remember SE saying something about still buying temp items in the update notes.
Are there any "new" items or key items that can be purchased either from the chest or the Nyzul NPC? Maybe one of those increases floor advancement or something or provide time extentions. Or maybe even NM's on the ??? floors that arent bosses drop possible time extentions.
Just did one run with what I'd call a competent group of friends. BLU, SAM, SAM, BRD, WHM, THF.
Got to floor 46 by picking ??? floor every time. Got 4 alexandrites from outside Nyzul NMs, nothing from other NMs.
Managed to skip over both floor 20 and floor 40 due to the random amount of floors we go up. The highest amount we went up was 9 floors, the lowest amount was 2 floors.
We went up something like 1, 7, 11, 13, 15, 24, 30, 34, 38, 46.
There's a big difference between a rare chance because the drop rate is low, and a rare chance because you basically never even get to attempt it.
Compare the frustration at always being outclaimed at groundkings vs the new popped kings.
Neither is especially fun, but the former was substantially worse.
So this is basically Nyzul ala ground kings, do event and pray that you can fight the NM you want. Only difference is that bots can't help you here.
My mind is blown in so many ways about how badly they seem to have botched the way the drops work on this. Perhaps it would be easier to be forgiving if there was any other content in this update... One can only hope there's some trick to either advancing through floors faster or starting at a higher level somehow. Even so, the gear is ridiculously powerful (the top stuff), it's fucking stupid that someone can go in for one run and get a piece of that with no sort of progression or trial or anything.
