I'm actually reading up on colonial American history now so it'll be interesting how they write this story for me.

I'm sure he's gonna be the one who cracks the liberty bell.

For years now we've enjoyed the adventures of Ezio Auditore as he makes his way through the Italian Renaissance and Ottoman-controlled Constantinople. That story is over. Ever since the conclusion of Assassin's Creed II, a senior team of Ubisoft developers has been secretly toiling away on what comes next. That team aimed high, with plans to examine and rethink every element of the franchise from the ground up, build something new, and take a full three year development cycle to do it.
The game that emerged is Assassin's Creed III. Set in the latter half of the 18th century, we'll see the war between the Templars and the Assassins escalate as it crosses over to the New World of America, and witness firsthand the events of the American Revolution. Caught in the conflict is a daring new hero in the Assassin's Creed franchise. We have the full story of this new hero and the striking game in which he stars, along with exclusive screens and art from the project, all packed into a massive 13-page cover story.
To whet your appetite, take a look at an early glimpse of the new game. Our cover image gives you the first hints of what to expect. Who is this new protagonist? What is his importance to the larger history-spanning story of the franchise? Let the speculation begin.

What's most interesting to me about this choice is the idea that it might play off of the speculation that Templar knights were actually IN the new world ahead of Columbus etc. History channel has a lot of specials on it. Lot of stonemason type stuff. Things carved into rocks here, something about an elaborate shaft with traps. I haven't read up on it in a while, but really interesting stuff if its indeed true.
I would be surprised if that wasn't touched upon.
I am excited about how they are going to evolve the story from this era...but as someone earlier noted, it won't be the same game if you're not running around on high rooftops and all that. Hopefully they introduce some sick game play elements to compensate...and bring back those creepy agent 16 puzzles...I for some reason actually liked those...
If they do it right, we'll probably be fighting Mexicans and other Native American tribes too. Probably the French too.
I was really depressed when Revelations didn't have the puzzles. The first person Desmond segments just didn't compare..
Spoiler: show
I'm hoping that down the line we would see one game set in Desmond times. Some high tech assassin shit in future Hong Kong or something like that.
Ok, they have my interest again.
Spoiler: show
YESSSSSSSSS
ok now i'm excited.
officially from ubisoft but of course not the final packshot:
Spoiler: show
After seeing that picture of the new guy pointing over what looked like George Washington's shoulder, and speculation of him leading/helping to lead the way across the Delaware... My first thought was the surprise attack on christmas/day after and doing assassin shit during the night. Fuck that would be awesome.
No more sexy Italians, middle eastern culture or cool Europeans settings. Now we're stuck jumping from McDonalds roof to KFC drive thru, wtf is this shit Ubisoft? I can't believe people actually buy this crap.
still mad you lost the war?
I love that the tomahawk is the Assassin symbol. Can not wait for this.
And wow I never knew that McD's and KFC was around during that time. . . .
