FISHING: What you need to know (hidden gems from the fishing thread)

I'm going to use this thread as a place to post things that have been discovered in the fishing thread that are frequently referenced back to. The thread has gotten so long that it can be hard to find things.

    1) Most Efficient Skillup Path: http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/493...=1#post4565453
    Stage 0.5: Nebimonite
    Fishing Levels: 0-27
Area: Ship between Mhaura/Selbina or Sea Serpent Grotto
Bait: Halcyon Rod (or Lu of course) & Crayfish Paste
Notes: Skip moats and hit these up for 27 levels. They sell incredibly fast on the AH for about 9k per stack. To save more gil, buy the crayfish paste at the fisherman's guild for dirt cheap. I'm sure they were exaggerating, but people said they made almost enough to buy a Lu from AHing these from 0-27 instead of spending time on Moats and random other fish. I imagine if you would like you can start Istiridye earlier than 27 assuming you have a Lu, a friend began them at level 7 with a Lu.
***ADDITIONAL NOTE: I've heard Nebs dont bite very well until around 15, so it may be best to just do moats from 0-11.

    Stage 1: Istiridye
    Fishing Levels: 0-53
    Area: Nashmau
    Bait: Robber Rig
Notes: These are incredibly easy to reel in and stack. If you are a bit patient they will sell on the AH for 7k a stack, or find a high level bonecrafter who synths them into black pearls and sell to them directly for a negotiable price. They also NPC for 300ish gil. I made 70k my first day just NPCing these while racking in a couple fishing skill levels from 30-33ish. I currently dbox them to a high level bone friend for 5k a stack.

    Stage 2: Mercanbaligi & Ahtapot
    Fishing Levels: 53-90
    Area: Nashmau
    Bait: Shrimp Lure
Additional Location: Talacca Cove, W exit of Nashmau through Caederva Mire near Einherjar entrance.
Notes: A friend prefers Talacca Cove, the difference is in Talacca you will also fish up Dil's which you will not in Nashmau. NPC rates seem to vary on these from about 600g on Mercs to 700gish on Ahtapots. Mercs are the Eastern equivalent of Bastore Breams and Ahtapots are the Eastern equivalents of Grimmonites. Dil's npc for almost 800g each and are the eastern version of black sole which cap at 96.

[i]This is where a few options seem to open:

    Stage 3 Option A: Pterygotus
    Area: Nashmau
    Fishing Levels 90-99
    Bait: Lugworm
Notes: Biterate is acceptable, and these will not break a Lu.

    Stage 3 Option B: Dil
    Area: Talacca Cave
    Fishing Levels: 90-96
    Bait: Shrimp Lure
Notes: You will also hit Mercs (single !) which are already capped, and also Ahtapots (!!!) which cap at 90 but the bite rate of hooking dils is similar to Pter's and you will make nice gil off the other 2 fish in the meantime.

Stage 3: Option C: Cave Cherax
    Area: Quicksand Caves
Fishing Levels: 86+ or more likely 99-100
    Bait: A MEATABALLS
Notes: These will snap a Lu Shangs and/or your line. If you go this route and do not have WW high enough to repair consider buying multiple Lu's.

Stage 4: Option D: Armored Pisces
    Area: Oldton Movalpolos
Fishing Levels: 86+ or more likely 99-100
    Bait: Sinking Minnow
Notes: These *will not* snap a line or rod if the fish is completely depleted. Bite rate seems to be equal or possibly better than Cave Cherax.

    Stage 5: Option D: Lik/Gugs
Area: Lufaise Meadows, Open Sea Route Mhaura/Al Zahbi
    Bait: Minnow, Meatballs
Notes: If you are lucky enough to have an Ebisu by the time you cap Ahtapot 90 in Talacca Cove skilling off these is a profitable option. I personally skilled 90-100 off Liks and made quite a fortune bazaaring some for 15k and unloading others to lsmates for 10k each and helping them obtain an ebisu. This really wouldn't be a great idea if you had a Lu, but if you were lucky enough to have an Ebisu at this point, the skill ups were quite decent.
    ____________________________

    TLDR Fishing for Dummies Version:
    All done in Nashmau:
0-53 Robber Rig, Istiridye (If no Lu, Halcyon to 27 on Nebs)
53-86 Shrimp Lure, Mercanbaligi & Ahtapot
86-99 Lugworm or Sinking Minnow, Pterygotus
99-100 QSC, Meatballs/Cave Cherax OR Oldton Movalpolos, Sinking Minnow/Armored Pisces, OR Lik/Gugs Minnow/Meatballs
    2) Proposal: Ebisu fishing rod has a hidden attribute of +46 fishing skill.
Discovered by cdgreg and shaddix: http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/493...=1#post4570904
    Facts verified by multiple fish:
Fishing skill 13 and above fish cap = Auto-depletion
    Fishing skill -24 to 12 = Stagnant
Fishing skill -25 and below fish cap = Auto-regen
Lu Shangs has no hidden skill, it auto deplete/regens at the same levels as Halcyon and other cheap rods
Ebisu has hidden skill, it auto depletes/regens at different levels from all other rods

    Target: Titanictus

    With Lu Shangs:
autoregen at 89 (fish is 25 levels higher)
stagnant at 90 (fish is 24 levels higher)
Therefore, Titanictus skill cap is 114
Therefore, Last level Titanictus will be stagnant is 126 skill
Therefore, To autodeplete Titanictus you will need to be at 127 skill

    With Ebisu:
stagnant at 80 (Skill is 12 levels above fish)
autodeplete at 81 (Skill is 13 levels above fish)
Therefore: First level to autodeplete TItanictus is 127, Ebisu rod first establishes autodepletion at level 81. 127 - 81 = 46.

Proposal: Ebisu fishing rod has a hidden attribute of +46 fishing skill.

Please let me know what should be added here.

I like 0-20ish in Jugner catching Dark Bass, Tricolored Carp, Gold Carp with Insect Paste+Lu Shangs. Can catch moat, but those cap early. Use a Lu's or you will get more moat carp bites than you want and just waste bait/time.

20-38ish I did in Battalia downs, catching Nosteau Herring, Black Sole, Tiger Cod (Until 29). Use a Lu's + Shrimp Lure. If you don't want to waste bites on Tiger Cod after you cap, you can also use a Minnow and catch Cone Calimari and Bluetail.

45-86 I like Talacca Cove as was recommended to me. Bite rate is fine at all of these locations for the specified levels.

Yeah I seemed to go faster doing slightly smaller fishing skill gaps. Like I tried merc/ahta at 53 and the bite rate was balls. Came back like 10 lvls later and was capping for the day in 4-6 hours.

I need some help figuring out rune setups for MMM Aquatic Depopulation Team! I have every rune EXCEPT 117 (Salinity Shift).

Currently I'm just aiming to get my final rune and Seagull/Pelican Rings. Charts are kinda bonus.

How exactly does 094 affect the drops?

(I figure people would notice more here than in the dead MMM thread.)

Basically it takes some drops out of what can drop and adds some that wouldn't otherwise appear. Theres several that can only be gotten thru lost and found

I know that part but I was wondering exactly which drops it affects on Maze Voucher 08... i.e. do I need to have it on for Seagull/Heron Rings to drop, and do I need to leave it off for Maze Rune 117 to drop?

I'm just not sure if it's similar to how Maze Voucher 07 works with it, in that 094 MUST be present in order for weapons to drop. All runes besides 117 idgaf about anymore.

I don't know if there is a complete list of what all only drops with and without it. I'm fairly certain I got my rings with using it so might need. And got salt water one while getting them so I'd use them. I also used some other runes to try and up rate based on what they do to other mazes. But if it worked hard to tell since there is so little info on MMM in general and least of all the fishing maze

I tossed those rings quite awhile ago, it's 100% puffin and noddy. Are you collecting them for completion's sake?

going to be starting up fishing soon- I always see mention of skilling up but never of the quest line to start the ebisu quest. Assuming they are required, or do people just turn in fish at the appropriate skill level? Like I said, I just never see mention of the quest line.

You have to do the quests up to http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Inside_the_Belly Once you complete that quest (30 skill or 28+ gear) you can begin trading lik and gug. You can get opal silk and saber shoot right at level 28. You will not be able to turn them in until you are 78 skill and have purchased serpent rumors from guild point NPC. Once you are 78 with serpent rumors you can turn the rare/ex items in and book get your rod on Sunday!

edit: apparently you dont need gear to hit 30, just the rank up @ 28.

When I've done the quest I've done it without gear at 28. But I had to rank up first

Off the top of my head:
I proved that fishing advanced support = +2
I also disproved urat's theory that spread like wildfire that overwhelming water energy in the MH increased your skill from moghouse furniture
Probably also be fun to have the current "record" for highest amount of ebisu fish needed for opal/shoot and also least amount lol.

Whether or not you can find those I don't know I'll keep thinking!

edit: someone at some point also posted the old official SE link where they stated moon phase does make a difference for fishing. I know personally I was calling BS until I read it

    Rearden - 1/1 Gugs 1/24 Liks

    Do I win?

Don't worry, I'm now 0/430 Gugs on my third rod so it's coming back to get me

hey if you want to send some of that luck my way...

a list of people willing to help newer fishermen with different fish would probably be a nice addition. I could use someone on shiva that would get me ebisu fish and fish contest winners and whatnot. Might be a decent need for it, and would give those fishermen a way to increase their business.

At this point, pretty much yes. Also hoping for some charts and the last rune to complete my collection.

I got my Heron Ring 2 days ago with help from Mirax, yay!
