Still don't understand how this is going to work, as it would be far better to have Spider-Man spend some time in the black suit, establish a relationship between Peter Parker and/or Spider-Man and Brock, and have Venom as an antagonist before featuring him as an antihero. I understand that it doesn't need to be the same as the comics, but it's very difficult to create this character in particular without the context.

I guess this story takes place after meeting with Spider-Man and acquiring the symbiote? If so that's great, I don't want a venom origin story just give me the next arc following Brock peacing out of NY.

From what I've seen there still isn't a clear cut decision if this even takes in the MCU. The last interview I saw Amy Pascal was asked if they're planning on having this be part of MCU and her response was along the lines of "Oh I don't know I'd like it all to be connected maybe" while Kevin Feige was sitting there with a forced smile not saying anything. My guess is there will be no clear indication if they're in the same universe and even if they are when exactly this takes place.

Pending on it's success, Venom will have his own series of films that will eventually crossover with the Spiderman series. Still no information on back story if the symbiote is part of Spiderverse or if it has split off into it's own thing.

Tom Holland was spotted on the set, so he's likely making an appearance. The twitter account also teased the possibility.

They fucked this movie up already unless they mean Brock won't be Venom until the end but they have a different person bonded with the symbiote. Either way, my cautious optimism just went super fucking flacid.

That rumor has Brock not going full Venom until the end where he fights the main villain who bonded with a symbiote. Brock will have Venom limbs appear throughout the film like in a car chase.
