And I suggest you guys check out the Ys anime too. It's pretty good too for being a 90's anime.
I came reading this, fuck yes to Ys Chronicles! Damn.. looks like I have to get a Vita eventually.

Been playing Ys: Memories Of Celceta in japanese for awhile. Excited for the english release. Knew XSEED was going to, just didn't know when. The game a better then Ys Seven, but is also more broken then the previous ys games with the armor/weapon enhancement system ._.

I think Ys Origin/Oath had the right balance throughout the whole game. Ys 7 gets really easy after a while. Ys I and II are fucking weird though, not sure if I could play them through properly.

I dunno, Ys Seven got hard as hell for me at the end. I spent a good hour trying to kill that last boss since your party setup for the first phase is so awful.

And yeah, for Ys I and II Chronicles you REALLY need to be in a retro mindset to play this. You can really overlook stuff and get lost easy since everything just seems to blend in together and there isn't a map.

Overall, Chronicles was a fun game, but I really wish they'd give this an enhanced remake like Ys III got since the story didn't withstand the test of time.

Celceta was pretty awesome. Playing nightmare or just replaying it isn't that fun though. Everything carries over so you could just use bad weapons/armor, but you'll still be lv60 with like 2k HP and whatever stats it came with.

Ys Seven was really only hard for me when I got to the final boss (nightmare mode), but then I just went and crafted everyone's final weapons/armor stuff and came back and won pretty easily.
Celceta is really hit and miss on difficulty. I didn't get a game over for awhile on nightmare mode. Mainly once you can enhance your gear with HP regen and weapons with HP drain. Carna + Multi-Snipe spam + Lv9 HP drain on her weapon = full HP no problem. Then toss in Napalm Throw when you got spare SP for damage. Still a really fun game though, and I like the changes with the skills (lv3 mastery cap, learn by level and not weapons, etc).

Edit: and I should note when I mean "Hard" in Ys context, I mean raging like I do on the previous Ys games with my 5~10+ game over counts (I'm looking at you Gyalva...). Ys Seven was usually just 1~2 game overs, if any, and then a win. I always play Ys games on nightmare mode.

True, Seven was overall pretty easy, but the games are still pretty damn fun.

Really wish there were more RPGs like this out there.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed 7 the most probably. But compared to Oath and Origin which really kicked my ass, I thought it was a lot easier. You get like 4x3 healing, 3x1 aoe healing, 3x1 revival etc, flash guard (which I only learned about 3/4 of the way in lol) and a bunch of other items that I don't really remember.

The last boss is annoying, but I farmed all ultimate weapons and equips before even trying so there's that.

And yes, we always play Ys on Nightmare mode.

A bustling town deep in the frontier at the foot of an endless sea of trees… It is into this wild and untamed setting that a young man collapses, memories gone and only his name to guide him.

Bereft of his past, Adol Cristin wanders the town of Casnan searching for clues to his identity. Joined by a thief who claims to have known him, the young adventurer helps rescue doomed miners from a collapse; an act which attracts the attention of the Romun Army general in town. Impressed with their skills, the pair is enlisted to explore the sea of trees and map the vast expanses of Celceta – a task which many have attempted in the past, but from which none have ever returned.

Alone in this strange and uncharted frontier, Adol must brave the perilous sea of trees as he struggles to regain his memories and decide whom he can trust, and who is simply attempting to take advantage of his memory loss in order to deceive him…

Xseed To Release Ys: Memories of Celceta Limited Edition With Cloth Map And More

    http://storage.siliconera.com/wordpr...tion_thumb.jpg

Xseed will release a limited edition version of Ys: Memories of Celceta, Falcom’s action RPG for the PlayStation Vita. Titled the “Silver Anniversary Edition,” this version of the game will come with a bunch of bonus items when it releases alongside the standard version this holiday.

The limited edition of Ys: Memories of Celceta will include a 3-CD collection of music spanning the entire Ys franchise, a cloth map of the lands of Celceta, a compass emblazoned with a logo, and “Adol’s Travel Journal,” which contains strategies and art work for the game.

The standard version of Ys: Memories of Celceta will cost $40, while the limited edition will cost $60. The game is a re-imagining of Ys IV, with changes to the game’s story and more. Xseed have not announced a release date for the RPG yet.

Love the stuff included. Only thing I really wish we could get is a vinyl figure of Adol or something along those lines like China did when Ys Seven got ported to PC over there.

Ys: Memories of Celceta Coming to PS Vita on November 26th

It’s Thanksgiving weekend. Your whole family is in a tryptophan-induced coma from eating too much turkey. But you? You ate nothing but pumpkin pie, so you’re still wide awake.

Fortunately, you’ve got your trusty Vita on hand, along with a copy of the Ys: Memories of Celceta Silver Anniversary Edition, which launches on November 26th. So while your in-laws all dream of sugarplums and dandelions, you’ll be off exploring the Great Forest and saving the world from evil yet again.

The latest installment in Nihon Falcom’s 25 year-old RPG franchise, Ys: Memories of Celceta, is a complete reimagining of the series’ legendary fourth installment. To make a long story short(ish), Ys IV is a game that’s been published in Japan three times previously — and all were completely different games that were developed independently by different companies.

Despite each one introducing and greatly expounding upon some of the franchise’s most pivotal lore, Falcom never actually created their own version of the game… until now.

And in keeping with tradition, this is no mere remake. The story is brand new, and the land of Celceta has been expanded from the usual handful of maps to an overworld so massive, you could easily fit the combined worlds of every other Ys title to date inside it… several times over, at that.

If you’ve never played an Ys game before, though, there’s absolutely no need to fear. Virtually every Ys experience is a standalone one to begin with, and this game really drives the point home by beginning its narrative with Adol losing all his memories. Thwarting the trope, however, his missing moments have taken physical form as glowing orbs scattered throughout the Great Forest, each of which can be regained with a mere touch. These range from important details about his recent excursions, to cherished memories of his childhood (A series first!), mixed in with perhaps even a stray memory or two from someone else altogether…

Solving the mystery of who he is and what happened to him in the Great Forest previously is only one piece of the puzzle. There’s political intrigue lurking around every turn, signs of a lost, centuries-old civilization beginning to surface throughout the land, and serious accusations mounting against our poor protagonist by people he simply can’t remember. Add to this a massive yet highly varied land to map out in meticulous detail, and Ys: Memories of Celceta easily becomes Adol’s largest and longest journey of all time.

Fortunately, he doesn’t have to go it alone, as the party system from Ys Seven makes its triumphant return with numerous tweaks to help keep things fresh. Switch among your three party members with the touch of a button, or use the Vita’s rear touch pad to strategize your party’s AI behavior. Learn newer, more devastating skills by taking down massive creatures through real-time, action-based combat. This is all aided by an equipment crafting system so versatile that even the weakest weapon or piece of armor in the game becomes a valuable component for something greater down the line.

The game itself can be yours for $39.99 this November 26th (at retail and on PlayStation Store) — though if you can track down a copy of the limited Silver Anniversary Edition, $59.99 will net you not only the game itself, but also a 120+ page book full of maps, strategies, and art, along with a 3-CD compilation of music (both original and arranged) from throughout the Ys series’ storied history. Plus, a detailed cloth map of the lands of Celceta, and a logo-emblazoned compass.

So make sure you’ve got a nice, juicy turkey ready to go this Thanksgiving, and when everyone else is asleep, fire up your copy of Ys: Memories of Celceta and get lost within the Great Forest. It may be a little dangerous, but believe me, the rewards are well worth the risk. You’ll be thankful you made the journey!

So XSEED is doing a daily countdown showing a new character each day. So far we got Duren and Karna:

    Duren:
An up close and personal look at Duren, the master information dealer (and Adol's right-hand man during his long journey through the Great Forest of Celceta).

    Karna:
An up close and personal look at Karna, an expert knife-thrower and the #1 huntress in Comodo Village. When she sets her mind on something, she always gets it done, no matter what obstacles may stand in her way.

Not much, but they really built upon the Ys Seven system from the looks of it.

    Ozma trailer:
An up close and personal look at Ozma, the deeply troubled tribal leader of Selray Village with a penchant for long-range spear maneuvers and an affinity for aquatic combat. Easily one of the most unique fighters in any Ys game's roster!

    Calilica trailer:
An up close and personal look at Calilica, a young spiritual guardian from a mysterious town and arguably the strongest character in the game, surpassing even Duren with some of her high-end skills.
