starting working at PwC this month, and we had an meet and greet at the hilton hotel with a free bar, some random messy looking guy comes over and insists I have a ton of drinks with him, 2 hours later, and many ridiculous stories I finally ask him who/what position he is, turns out he's my senior manager and by the time i'd finished my training and actually got into the office, everyone knows me as the guy with the drinking problem

If they don't tell you exactly what it was that caused the problem, tell them that their employee complaint reporting feedback is s-wordy as f-word.

We don't even allow employee complaints unless the employee is willing to state exactly what happened. We do this to stop anonymous backstabbing and petty squabbling among the employees. You are still entitled to file a complaint about another employee anonymously but you have to be able to tell me exactly what he/she did.

If you have to wonder and guess about what you did to get reprimanded after the reprimand, there is something seriously wrong with the policy.

In other news, the last of my Lego order arrived. They say you can't buy happiness. They have clearly not spent enough money on Legos. Happily building away. Don't have room to build the big ones right now, but the little ones are just as fun. I've gotten a couple pleasant surprises in new parts I didn't even know existed, and apparently each time they ship an order they toss in a little random minifigure packet. It took 4 boxes to get the whole order here, so i got an olympic swimmer, an aztec (incan?) spearman, a scottish bagpiper with a cloth kilt, and a computer programmer. He's got a coffee mug that has "c:\" printed on it, and a little laptop that even opens up. When it's closed it fits in his clawhand. It's really neat. There's a space marine minifig I was hoping to get, but no such luck. Maybe when my parents spend all the VIP points this order generated (over $100 worth, lawl! free legos!) for Christmas/birthday I'll get it. Yep. More Legos! But not until Christmas. They'll probably order them this month, since there's specials on and whatnot, but they won't belong to me until the occasions roll around. My parents have always liked giving Legos as gifts. I like getting (and giving. my nephews used to build too) them too, so win-win. When I have a family, soon as those kids are old enough, LEGOS EVERYWHERE. From me AND my parents. I wear slippers around the house, so it won't even be a foot hazard.

I'm still hunting for the cause. One of the managers I get along with won't tell me but said it was general "un-professional" behaviour, which is too vague for me to take it in. Granted, I swing both ways. I'm professional as fuck when I'm helping/supporting people, but left to my own devices, I revert to "adult child" lol.

Despite Bane concurring, I too would love such policy. There's too much "caring" lately in the world and therefore people get away with things sometimes. If I could just know the truth, perhaps I would be less of an asshole and more respectful.

A similar "policy" is that the train operators in the UK are not allowed to announce people that jump in front of a train/on the track (for suicidal reasons). It all boils down to "person under a train" or "an incident" which can be interpreted in multiple ways, including suicide. I do believe if they would've flat out told us this as we're stuck in some tunnel like sardines, we'd be less pissed off at the "delay". I'd react similar to "oh ok. fine" instead of jumping along the theory/rumour bandwagon.

well that one i get. people may be of the sentiment that ignorance is bliss, and may not want to know that there's a dead guy smeared all over the front of their train. Plus, any time death is involved, you risk inciting a panic.

My phone has been acting stupid lately. I send texts out that have normal timestamps, but half the texts I receive are timestamped four hours in the future. If you look at today's texts, it looks like I was talking to myself for an hour and then my friend was talking to himself for an hour, only four hours later.

Then I keep going into roaming mode, which makes my phone do this annoying "doo-do-lee-do" noise every four seconds - and roaming in places I've never been considered roaming before. It's annoying as shit. Someone said it may be Sandy's fault, but I doubt this considering I live in Florida. Maybe a tower is down or something.
