Most people consider Pittsburgh a "big" town. In terms of population the city of Pittsburgh is NOWHERE near the size of the other cities. The total population of the city proper is just over 300k.

You cant omit the neighboring cities consisting of the greater pittsburgh area...

It is disingenuous to list the "city" population rather than the metropolitan area, which is more accurate for what kind of draw these kind of events can have.

So:
Chicago: 9.8m
Boston: 7.6m
Detroit: 5.2m
Pittsburgh: 2.4m

oh right LA: 17.7m

Whatever makes you feel better in thinking no one in LA cares about the Kings.

I'm willing to bet LA is also a lot more diverse than the other areas.

It's pretty obvious that the Kings fanbase is nowhere near what a lot of other teams' is, despite the large population in the area.

I've never heard anyone say LA doesn't have fans, not sure where this is coming from. Parade numbers? Give me a break.

Bigger cities like LA and NY have a smaller % of the population as a hockey fans than say Boston or Detroit. That's just demographics mixed with having 20 other pro sports teams in the area to root for. Easier to have a devoted fanbase when you're the only relevant team in the area (Detroit) or 50% of your population consists of rich white college kids (Boston).

Also consider mid-West towns like Chicago and Detroit, there's not as much to do besides being a huge sports fan, therefore all their teams tend to get bandwagoned a bit harder. It's not as surprising that in a city like LA where there's a lot more going on in the way of nightlife, beaches, that the residents aren't as sports crazy as in other towns.

Just crap i've had to hear over the years. Esp when I was in areas outside of LA and I said I was a Kings fan. I had a few people tell me they would be shocked if the Kings got anymore people to come than the Ducks did. I'd say we did pretty well.
