Listen Nashville has a good team, hell I’ll even say the best team we have seen in my music city ever. But you know what a lot of what we are hearing is HYPE. With Rinne’s top tier season he had as a goalie it started the HYPE machine; with the dealings they made at the trade deadline it helped fuel the HYPE machine, and when Radulov came back it kicked the HYPE machine in to full gear. But you know what, are they really that good? It came down to the last 2 games of the regular season for them to take over the Wings spot at 4th.
But the problem I see with Nashville is number 1. Pekka-fucking-Rinne(2.39 GAA and .923 Sv%). While he’s an elite goaltender the mother fucker has played in 73 fucking games this season. He’s faced more shots than any other goalie this season. When is this mother fucker do for a slump, a slip up, a lapse in skill? Soon, very fucking soon, because even the best can suffer from being overworked and it looks like his time is due.
But let’s look at Jimmy Howard(2.13 GAA and .920 Sv%). I’ll say this is really his first true year at being the number 1 in Detroit and he has responded well. He has only played in 57 games. A 16 game difference, damn near over a month of games. While most of these had to deal with injuries, Groin and Fingers being the main cause. His second break from a groin was nothing more than a precaution. His skill didn’t go unrecognized either this year since he took a trip to the All-Star game.
So, Rinne vs Howard may be a draw at the end of the day since both have been spectacular this season.
Look at the advantages of the Predators, their special teams. Their power play this year is no fucking joke. 21.6 % ya’ll have got to be fucking kidding me. We are fucked, no fucking way we can fight against that. But wait… isn’t this Detroit we are talking about. The Red Wings and the Predators are two of the least penalized teams in the whole league. So that takes away both the Predators power play which will be rare and hardly seen during this series (unless there are some phantom calls) and the Red Wings, Nothing to talk about, Penalty kill at 81.8%. So let’s toss that right out the window also.
What about this deep team I keep hearing about in Nashville Ace? Well, what about it? Offensively the Red Wings have more players with at least 10 goals, and more players with at least 20 goals. They have 3 players to Nashville’s 0 with more than 60 points (Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Filppula), and have more players who have reached at least 20 points.
Lets even take a look at playoff history; we all know the past is the past but just for shits and giggles. Since the millennium Detroit was won not one, but TWO Stanley cups, not only that but reached the finals another time. But let us look at the 07-08 team. Not much different, in fact over 10 players on the team that year are on the team this year. Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Cleary, Hudler, Holmstrom, Franzen, Filppula, Stuart, Helm, Kronwall. They where all on the team then and healed an important role in winning. and they still fucking hold that roll.
But we all know history is that, history.
To save you from a wall of text (Should have done this sooner) I’ll say this, while this certainly will be a tough matchup for Detroit, in fact I’ll say maybe the toughest they will face all post season. But are we going to get stomped? No fucking way so pull your fucking head out of your god damn ass and stop making bullshit fucking statements.
