eh I wouldn't go so far to say that you should blanket do what police say. Which I'd imagine is where the house slave comment came from.
But it's just plain stupid to initiate physical hostility against someone (cop or otherwise) who is trained to deal with such things. Especially if they have the authority to do so. Kicking a cop is like poking a bear. You don't do it not because you love bears but because you don't want to be mauled
Maybe I should correct myself after the nynja fiasco just a page ago and say she deserved to be physically restrained. Body slamming her was more than likely over the line, but I'm of the opinion that if she didn't learn her lesson here than she'd be making the same mistake in a situation where the outcome is far more damaging to her in the long run.

Fuck her and the cop, this is the parents fault for raising such a ratchet child. Ain't no 12 year olds kicking and screaming unless their home life is fucked up.
Youre vastly underestimating the stupid of kids these days.
Everyone is a winner and an invincible special snowflake, mouthing off to a "school popo" is nothing.
You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?
You all know I could spend days talking about what's happening in schools, and this is yet another thing. I don't blame the cop per se (though he went too far), but what we've done to schools that create cultures where this happens.
From kindergarten to eighth grade, students are not given grades, not held back if they fail, and not kicked out when they misbehave. Our school last semester got dinged by LAUSD because we had "too many suspensions" and we had to cut back. Basically had to keep everyone in school on the off chance we really needed to suspend someone for like bringing a gun in or some shit.
On the one hand, I agree with Aks; however, we have done absolute dick to try and teach kids good behavior by this age. At 12, not only would I never kick a cop, but I'd never be in a situation where I would need a cop on my in the first place.
Cognitive dissonance can get easily confused with simple bad behavior. We know that bad behavior is in place for the fact that she was physically fighting in the first place. The cognitive dissonance can overwhelm the kid with the cop because they have no other learned behavior. When you are taught for years in the place you spend the majority of your time (school) that if you behave badly, nothing will happen to you, you won't understand where the limit is.
I really pity school cops. Schools hands are so tied down by shit regulations, they leave it up to cops to try to handle it, and the kids don't give a fuck.
[edit] lol I remember that video of the cop taking down the girl with the phone. I remember reading comments (not bg) of people shocked there was a kid with their phone out. I was like, "Fuck do you want me to take a pic of my desk at anytime during the day?" I probably take away on average about 20 phones per day. It's frustrating as shit.

At 12, you're extremely susceptible to opinions of others, especially ones you look up to. If parents aren't actively reinforcing respect to police officers, especially with all the anti-cop social media campaigns of the past few years, then it's no surprise if she thinks of them as universally corrupt and/or not worth listening to.
Assuming no mental deficiencies, then I agree that her parents probably are not the greatest if they haven't taught her that kicking anyone without provocation, especially an authority figure, is a bad fucking idea. But don't pretend their home life must be a catastrophe just because a child did something stupid, because they have some functioning level of autonomy by that age, and no matter what you taught them, they can and will make their own decisions.
If it is indeed true she tried to run past the cop after an attempt to mediate, then my sympathy drops even further. As is, we don't know the size difference between the girl and her intended target. Even if the officer did just try to hold onto her, he could've risked broken toes, even a good heel to the shin, and kitty claws or even bites into the forearms. Thus, some self-preservation was also at play as well as concern for the target. On the other hand, even if he did just keep hold, girl could later cry foul about how he grabbed her boob or something shitty during the scuffle, thus sexual harassment, and hello pedo-cop.
So, seems like more of a lose-lose situation for the cop because just letting the kids go at it also would've been frowned upon. Getting him out of the district is probably for the best, but I'm not sure if it justifies possibly ruining his career if the reprimand goes that far. Her head hitting the concrete was unlikely his intent as people with enough grappling experience can attest it is possible to toss people without really hurting them, but her non-compliance is still a factor to this outcome.
Honestly, I'm amazed he got canned. Give him a week off unpaid? Sure. Cops are in the media spotlight, but it really seems they made him out to be a sacrificial lamb. And they are in a shitty situation. In 97, my senior year in high school, I got suspended for a week for beating the shit out of a kid who started a fight with me in class. Turns out the rest of the students decided they wanted me expelled, so they told the VP and school resource officer that I was bragging about bringing my dad's police issued glock to school.
During the suspension, I had to come in to take my writing competency test to graduate and they had our resource officer waiting (who happened to work under my dad when he started). He knew it was bullshit, but he had to search my truck. What would have sucked though is I nearly borrowed my dad's Camaro to go in, and I never knew he kept his service gun locked in the trunk glove box. If I brought his car, I would have gotten expelled due to a bunch of punk shits who thought it would be funny to try to get me expelled cause I beat the crap out of their friend who thought I would be easy pickings in a fight.

This is one of the largest concerns that I have about my wife and one of the reasons why I don't want kids anymore. She's extremely anti-cop / authority figure and would probably teach our kid that cops should be feared / hated instead of trusted.

That's when you one up her and tell them that as an authority figure as well they shouldn't trust her haha

Even the pro-police parents strike fear into their kids involving the police.
"If you don't behave the police will come take you to jail" mentality
Just read back up to the article you linked. I've gotta say, by the end of the third paragraph in that article, all I could think of was co-opt. For MSNBC to publish that, and create an almost clear divide with an obviously explosive memo saying "Democratic win in 2012 would be great for OWS and terrible for us", along with all the rest of it, even if it's 100% accurate it just reeeeeeeeeeeks of foundation work for an attempt to co-opt OWS. I could be wrong, but the impression just grew stronger through the end of it. That makes me incredibly wary.
Edit: An additional view of the UC Davis video, easier to see at least one other cop spraying students directly in the face towards the end of the line.
Fucking rofl. Chancellor addresses the campus at large, justifying the blatant brutality used in evicting the protesters in the name of "health and safety concerns". It almost seems like she wants to try to ignore it happened and hope it goes away. I feel like I'm in an episode of the fucking Twilight Zone.
Apparently this rallied together like the entire campus, and part of the town, even among all the people originally against them, and they have a plan for a big protest/rally on Monday.
I heard about this on NPR (stfu I'm old now) last weekend as I was driving home. They were actually specifically talking about how badly the coverup backfired.
13 yr old shot and wounded after fleeing officers for refusing to drop a replica semi-automatic bb gun. Officers said that it looked like a real gun when they recovered it.
