Returning to FFXI controller problems

Returning after a Hiatus and never had an issue with using the controller on the PC before with FFXI but after reinstalling the game I'm running into the following issue where the game will let me configure the controller and test it as working working correctly. When I log into the game however it won't let me use it. These are some of the things I've done to troubleshoot this and now I'm stuck.

Using Logitech F710 drivers are updated
Controller works in POL config and in POL itself
Controller works in in FFXI game pad config but not in game.

I've even tried plugging in an older Logitech F310 but still having same issues.

Any ideas?

Under the Final Fantasy XI Config application, there's a checkbox within the key assignment pack that says 'enable gamepad'. It's unchecked by default for whatever reason.

Got it checked and can't test the gamepad in ffxi config w/o it being checked but for some reason when I log all the way in it doesnt read the controller. When I go into the POL config the controller works when I 'm still in POL just doesn't on FFXI for some reason

Got it fixed. My Razer Nostromo was messing it up, which I didn't have last time I played.
