My little guess as to what the crystal thing is about is:

Considering that the 'realm reborn' poem thing mentions the crystal sleeping in darkness, I reckon that the crystal shown there (which does look kinda different to current aetherites) is more of a mothercrystal type of thing, and Dalamud coming is going to wake it up resulting in all the crazy crystal structures emerging from the ground etc. We know something below the ground has been absorbing aether of crystals buried, which could be any number of things (including the crystal tower ofc), so it's just a hunch.

I enjoy speculating.

That's the only thing we can confirm won't be available at Anime Expo since its coming in their big 'flood of info' august XD.

As for Anime Expo, this is all we know

Square Enix Conference: “The Future of Final Fantasy XIV Online“

Naoki Yoshida, producer and game director, will present his vision for the future of Final Fantasy XIV Online on Saturday, July 7th at 15:00 on the Video Games stage.

He will then host an autographing session in room EQ55 (Hall 6) at 17:30.

And from a rep it was confirmed that it is an open stage and people can film the session if they choose. Unless he is planning to rehash stuff we all learned a month earlier I think we should expect something new from this stage session.
