So... if they're showing off FFXIV why didn't they jump on stage during Sony's conference instead of that stupid book thing?

You realize this is SE right? The group notorious for closed door presentations? It was probably a developers seminar or forums where they showed off unfinished work they didn't want to use as promotional material, but still gave it to journalists to write about and get people excited.
Edit: Another thing I'd mention is Kagari has been VERY lukewarm about FFXIV. Hopefully if it impresses her it will impress a lot of people.
I realize this is SE, the same company that announced this game at E3 during Sony's conference. If they had footage to show why not do that? Heck they could even make a comparison video showing what's going to change between now and 2.0 instead of the trailer that they rightfully delayed.
At first I thought they had other (bigger) announcements to make but this is just stupid.
the last time SE jumped on stage and unzipped their pants to show off was when they got everything setup for FFXIV.
remember how that worked out? they are going to be careful now, otherwise some bitches are going to seppuku
And yeah Kagari confirmed it was a presentation and they were not allowed cameras. Kagari is going to post a write up about it later tonight.
Edit: Also a little known fact about E3 is much like GDC, E3 is mostly for developers, producers, publishers, retailers and press. They have a lot of behind the scenes demos of early concept work its just SE is notorious for keeping these demos behind the scenes till they are ready to use them as promotional material. The only promotional material we got out of FFXIV when it was announced was just the CS + FMV trailer in a press conference. We had to wait till Gamescon to get anything really solid about the game.
Kagari: I'm 100% convinced. Just got done with my Yoshida interview and they showed me a real time demo of 2.0.

Looking forward to that write up. And I agree with Sonomaa they are taking the "Measure twice, cut once" approach this time.
But they're showing it off to the media anyway... the only ones that aren't allowed to see this are the players <_<
I hope that new website has some footage at release, I really do.
Apparently she's doing the write up tonight. >.<;; Can't friggin wait.... AUGH.
XIV 2.0?
Pass.
Are you guys really going to be suckered back in to this?
SURE SEEMS THAT WAY! :D
Frankly, the thing I'm seeing most in these screen shots is what I knew they'd have to do to A: make the game more visibly appealing and B: allow lower-end systems to run it: TONE DOWN THE FUCKING BLOOM LIGHTING. Seriously, the whole thing looks a lot more clean now that I don't feel the need to wipe my glasses.
I just think the screens look beautiful. Doesn't give me any hope or generate any hype for me.
It does, however, make me want to see more eye candy.
Better graphics for sure is a plus, not a minus but not a big enough plus to make me really care.
There are three things they've got to overcome in 2.0. Graphics, battle mechanics, and end-game systems (like loot drop-rate, tokens, ect). Any one of those can potentially make 2.0 dead in the water. That being said, we've got some good indication now that one element, graphics, are going to be up to par.
Doesn't mean the other stuff can't or won't suck, but it is one large item off the checklist.
Graphics were never the problem, it was the engine that handled them that sucked.
(copy/pasted environments isn't a graphics issue just laziness)
So they had a tech demo? Maybe we'll get to see it soon. Though I still wish another serious interview (as in no pussy-footing around the questions) would happen.
Is this real life?
