Fuck, forgot you only start with few leves when you make a new character. How often do they replenish? And is 99 the max you can have?
99 is max, I think 12h refresh for 4 new?
Every 12 hours, use clock to see when your next batch comes up, and I honestly can't remember if it's 4 or 8 per reset
Nice name change. lol
Yeah, it's 4 per 12 hours. You can type /clock to see when the next batch will arrive.
New characters (and characters that haven't visited the leve counter since the 99-max limit was imposed) will merely start with 4 or 8.
Any good places to farm for Eyes of Lightning?
Gotta make those Ivory Staffs...
Uh, if you're Ul'dahn the "kill as many as you can!" GC leve sometimes pops Lightning Elementals. I can't think of a place with wild Lightning Elementals off the top of my head though.
What am I doing wrong for the caravan escort at Camp Drybone to be getting 750 seals even though I'm stopping at each of the four points? (Sometimes I do get 1k, but I don't know why when it happens)
Is Rocl correct?I am not entirely sure this is the appropriate thread, but afaik you have to kill x number of mobs to get 1k seals (I think I've heard 50? maybe 40?) and the number of spawns is randomized each time. However, like you said, there are "bonus mobs" for stopping at certain points to boost your kill count.
They do spawn alot during GC leves from Grid and probably for all the cities too. If you have 99 leves and dont really use them, just spam and abandon leves til u get what u want. Thats probably your best best at mass killing. The "kill as many as u can" one as mentioned already.
I had no idea it was such a tough thing to farm...
Well, thanks for the advice though. I'll have to try it. While I'm at it though...
PLD I know seems to be a lost cause for many people, but since I got it to 50 I do want to work with it.
I went STR/VIT with my point allocation, and materia wise I'm still thinking about which would be the best way to approach things:
Sword: Mog Weapon seems to be the best for this slot for the ACC.
Shield: Thormoen's Purpose? Some sort of HP meld shield?
Head: Gallant Coronet is a good substitute for now. I'm assuming a double melded MND piece would be ideal or something.
Body: Double-Melded VIT seems to be my first choice, since it affects the block damage from shield and also adds HP and a bit of defense. Though HP seems to make sense too due to PLD's HP.
Hands: This is where is gets tough. I know damage is essentially the best way to keep hate, so STR seems obvious. But I know PLD suffers from HP issues, so HP seems to make sense as well. DEX is also a bit of a contender too, since it affects block rate as well as ACC and such.
Legs: STR/DEX, STR/VIT or DEX/VIT? There's HP too I suppose.
Feet: Double HP.
Waist: Double Enmity seems to be ideal.
I dunno! Any direction would be very much appreciated.
You've got the general idea down.
What I "use" on PLD, use being in quotes because I may gear my jobs well I just never have anything/anyone to do/things with:
(stuff in parenthesis is amounts from materia)
Mog sword
Kite Shield +1 (HP+100)
Cobalt celata (MND+30)
Cobalt cuirass VIT+40 (VIT+33)
Cobalt gauntlets (STR+35)
Sentinel's sabatons HP+97 (HP+70)
Cobalt plate belt +1 (HP+50 enm+25)
Felt trousers +1 STR+18 VIT+20 (STR/VIT+14)
Accessories are usually coral armillae +1, stonewall earring, explorer's choker, and rings are usually STR/ACC but they can be anything
Best place to get enmity is waist, best places for HP are shield and feet, legs can be as well but there's a lot you can get from the leg slot. You can go DEX on hands but I don't think very much of increasing shield block as far as real returns on damage reduced. You have 100% block rate 1/3 of the time, enhanced block rate another 30/90 secs, aegis boon, and then there's the fact that not everything can be blocked anyway.
I tried to keep 3500hp (no pt buff) as my comfort threshold, but that may just be from all the WAR tanking I've done in the past. It's jarring to think you can tank with a PLD's HP when you're so used to seeing 4200+ in a full party.
I would say waist and sword are the best slots to get enmity. Really no need to use Mogsword tbh since accuracy rings nq will give you the same accuracy and +1s will give you +6 more combined. If you're talking about end game setups then sans Darklight I would suggest working towards something like this (I am presuming that you'll play with above-average players and you will need the enmity bonuses).
Sword: Cobalt Winglet (Enmity x2) (has acc+5 btw, sometimes people overlook that).
Shield: Thormoen's Purpose (this is a fine shield)
Head: Gallant Coronet (save money not double melding Cobalt Cuirass)
Body: Gallant Surcoat (save money here, plus the cover MP back is good for end game)
Hands: Cobalt Gauntlets (HP x2) [In end game, damage is NOT the best way to keep damage outside of Spirits Within which is strictly HP based anyway.]
Legs: Felt Trousers (HP x2)
Feet: Cobalt Sabatons (HP x2)
Waist: Cobalt Plate Belt (Enmity x2)
Earring: Stonewall Earring
Neck: Explorer's Choker
Wrists: Raptorskin Wristlets
Rings: Electrum Rings x2 (HQ priority)
Food Options: Apkallu Omelettes (HP+220) or Mugwort Carp (Accuracy+24), these options should be affordable.
Assuming you get the enmity filled out with +21s, then you'll wear two pieces with +42 (x2) = +84. You'll have accuracy from rings and the choker. If you can get at least +100 on each double melded piece of gear, then you'll looking at an additional 100 from 3 slots for +300 HP. Wrists provide another +50/60. This will be a pretty good start.
Haha, talk about polarizing builds. Niiro's build seems more of what I was thinking though.
It just seems so weird that the best way to tank is just stacking HP... is the damage output really not worth it/not nearly as effective? I know PLD isn't supposed to be a hardcore DD, but completely ignoring it does seem a little strange.
But then again, what do I know!
Why is that weird? XI and XIV have had very similar histories. In early XI HP was about the only thing you could stack that made a difference. In XIV the combat is a faster paced but the gear you want with enmity on it is not easy to attain. You have to consider that decent spellcasters and melee dps are pulling off crazy DPS numbers on HNMs (100+ for reference). As PLD, your melee output is not going to mean squat. Straight up enmity+ is your best bet. As it is I have some difficulty keeping hate against our best nukers on stuff like Chimera. They damage output from them is insane and even PLD in full darklight (which I am) can have a rough time.
The enmity for sword and waist makes sense to me, since 40+ Enmity in a slot is pretty awesome.
It's funny you mention XI. Early PLD tanking was like that, yes. But didn't it eventually grow to a point where gearing a bit for DD actually ended up being more effective?
But what about hate tools like Flat Blade or stuff like Goring Blade combos and Riot Blade? Their damage was increased and I heard it actually scales pretty well onto harder mobs.
And while it's true Magic / Melee DPS from decently geared/knowledgeable will definitely cause issues to keep hate, As long as you wear the enmity pieces, wouldn't that just make keeping hate with your DPS that much better, since more damage = more increased hate generation from the enmity% bonus overall?
I don't wanna sound like I'm being pushy or stubborn, but I do want to at least push the idea a little! Maybe test it even if I get the chance. This isn't also to say that this build is end all, but at the very least situational with merit as compared to your pure defensive HP build.
Yeah, the increment on WS wearing full DPS setup isn't very huge to outweigh the bonus from full enmity build. I have a friend with full DPS setup (triple MND celata, DL cuirass, triple STR gloves) and said he had easier time tanking when he went full HDL gears. I dont have full DPS setup myself so i can't test, but i never had issue with hate when wearing full HDLs.
