Hey, I'm not debating the politics of it. I'm just saying it freaks me out, and gave context for why it freaks me out. Get some perspective.

This is actually pretty serious gun talk, not sure where you get the nonchalance from.
But I get it, people who haven't ever fired a gun don't understand how fucking awesome they are.
My recommendation is to find a range that also sells used pistols and ask to test-fire. Put at least 10 rds. through any pistol you're interested in and fits your hand and then leave without buying. ALWAYS check prices online and at other dealers. Don't forget to haggle.
Edit: Most indoor ranges also have a shop attached.
http://www.classicfirearms.com/ there was one on the front page but it may have been bought already.
Lulz@all the internet tough guys around here.

On topic, I purchased a XD-45 ACP from a friend last year. He's gone through around 100+ rounds with it, and I've dumped over that by now. It's been a fantastic gun. Easy to handle, great grip and a very reasonable price.
Highly recommended if you don't go another route.

I wonder if the UK has similar discussions on what kind of batons to buy.
is a 200 dollar gun even strong enough to kill a kid with skittles? I doubt it has the penetrating power to pierce through anything more than 200 thread count hoodie
I'm not supporting Linliel, I'm a fan of citizen gun ownership, but you do realize when you say "protection" you mean he'll be using his firearm for injuring or ending the life of another human being, presumably one who is also holding a firearm with the intent (or at least potential) to end the life of another human being.
By all means, I get why people like hunting and sport shooting. But citing someone's who's buying the firearm with no intention of firing this at anything other than a human being or pieces of paper with the intent of practicing to be able to fire it another human being more efficiently does not aid your argument lol.
Why do cops have guns again?
SHUT UP!
GLOCK is the only answer...
Seriously creeps me out to see people talking so nonchalantly about things designed purely to kill people. But hey, I guess that's Americans and ridiculous sword craziness for you.
