well richards got an A right away, but Prospal left anyway so it didnt matter
Just feels like Captain and Assistant Captain is something you should earn on a team. Having one of your assistants be new (Richards, Greene etc) is ok. Greene didn't even get named till training camp.
And yeah, seems even worse to take it away from players that were already on the team. I guess Heatley if he lost his isn't a big deal but Cullen should keep his.
The Caps have had up to four A's at once, because Poti and Knuble have been dinged up. Those two, along with Laich, Backstrom, Brouwer, and Chimera have all worn the A at times over the last two seasons I think.
I get what you're saying that they should be with the team and earn that right, but unless there's an unexpected rift in the locker room, both Parise and Suter are pretty well-known leaders.
Yeah, I don't dispute that they are good leaders. Just should be earned. Don't need an A or a C on your sweater to lead. Could still be a leader, earn your stripes, then officially be an assistant/captain.
Messier is one the of the best leaders of all time, but it didn't set will or work at at all when he took the C from Linden when he went to Vancouver.
Alternate.

Corey Pronman @coreypronman
He's easily worth an AAV of 7MM, arguably 8+. RT @skyywise: @coreypronman any opinion on $/yrs Semin should get, or why he hasn't yet?Hockey Prospectus' top prospect columnist.Corey Pronman @coreypronman
I see consistent high-end output. Dont care how he does it. "@Hirgwath: can you see Semin's work ethic issues, or is it just xenophobia
the whole captain discussion reminded me of the third mighty ducks movie. ya, i went there

To clarify, I was talking about the alternate upon joining the team debate.
I just wanted to use that clip for some reason. Luckily blue is eye level with my coin purse.
