It's already been posted in gaming.

Should be in Gaming as its own thread because fuck megathreads.
Yeah no wonder I didn't see it, I think this is potentially pretty big news for the FFXI community rather than just those who read the Gaming forum and one thread at that. What will end first? FFXI itself or FFXI support for PS2?
Merged everything.
Even with no PS2 support, they will still be issues. The games architecture is over 11 years old.

Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment has teased fans by dropping a hint of some big news coming in 2013.
The developer wrote on the Alan Wake Facebook page: “The new year starts with good news: Alan Wake Franchise is -75% on Steam. Even greater Remedy news to come in 2013…”
Now make of this what you will, but the fact that it was teased alongside an Alan Wake sale notice seems to suggest that the news is connected to the torch wielding writer’s franchise. Could we finally be getting news of Alan Wake 2?
Back in July last year the developer registered a web domain for Alan Wake 2 which led to a ton of speculation at the time, but nothing ever came of it. Hopefully we get good news this year.
Hope thats the case because American Nightmare was ass compared to the first.

Sony patents method of blocking used games from working
We're only a few days into 2013, but Sony's already vying for the Asshole of the Year award in a competitive fashion. It's been discovered that the company has patented a method of "tagging" games played on multiple systems, with the purpose of trying to control secondhand sales.
"According to the present embodiment, realized is the electronic content processing system that reliably restricts the use of electronic content dealt in the second-hand markets," reads the patent. "As a result, the dealing of electronic content in the second-hand markets is suppressed, which in turn supports the redistribution of part of proceeds from sales of the electronic content to the developers."
The next PlayStation was rumored to be looking into ways of blocking used sales, though boss-man Jack Tretton has said he'd be against the idea. A patent, of course, is no proof that anything like this would actually happen -- it's just Sony sitting on an idea in case it or anybody else does want to do it eventually.
Even so, the very idea of this, along with the thought that people want to implement it, disgusts me entirely. It speaks of the cowardice that dominates this industry -- the desperation to control consumers at every level, rather than face the scary prospect of actually having to work to gain their loyalty and money.
I don't think even Sony is suicidal enough to use this idea at the moment, but I'm no less disgusted with it for dreaming it up in the first place.

As THQ looks to hand itself over to a new owner, a number of its creditors have come forward to oppose the bankruptcy and takeover plans, calling them "unfair and unreasonable."
THQ filed for bankruptcy last month, and revealed that Clearlake Capital Group is fronting $60 million to acquire its business, including its development studios and all of its games currently in development.
However, with the Clearlake deal scheduled to go through later this month, several of THQ's lenders have filed objections to the move, alleging that THQ has an agenda that works out well for the company, but not so much for its creditors.
Silverback Asset Management, Third Avenue Focused Credit Fund and Wolverine Flagship Fund Trading Limited -- all noteholders for THQ -- believe that the current deal has "been designed specifically to thwart any potential bidders from stepping forward to compete with Clearlake's bid."
Their complaint states that the current motion will not maximize the value of THQ's estates, but rather has been put in place to ensure that Clearlake gains THQ's whole business, "regardless of whether such a sale is in the best interests of the Debtors' unsecured creditors."
And why would this be in THQ's best interests? Claims the complaint, the sale has been designed such that THQ's current management executives will retain their positions in the company.
"The Bidding Procedures Motion contains scant reference to the discussions and/or agreements between the Debtors and Clearlake with respect to employment of the Debtors' management and employees following the sale, as well as the steps the Debtors took to ensure that the sale process is fair in light of such agreements," it reads.
"If the members of Debtors' management are concerned more with retaining 'control' over the Debtors than maximizing the value of the Debtors' estates, their interests clearly conflict with those of the Debtors' unsecured creditors."
Elsewhere U.S. Trustee Roberta DeAngelis, who is overseeing the bankruptcy filing, has her own objections to the motion, as noted by Distressed Debt Investing.
In her own objection, DeAngelis states that the short window of opportunity for potential bidders to show their interest in THQ is not acceptable, and that there is clearly a rush to get the deal with Clearlake sorted.
The Silverback, Third Avenue and Wolverine complaint agrees, suggesting that THQ purposely used the holiday period -- a time when it knew potential buyers would be away from the office -- to push the Clearlake deal through more quickly.
Gamasutra has contacted THQ for a response to the complaints.
So it looks like buying a used WiiU has its advantages...

Dude says he bought a used Wii U and was able to download all the games purchased by the previous owner through the store since accounts are linked to the system, even though he created a new account and the old one was deleted.
I have zero other places where this even remotely belongs, but if you are looking for time to kill... Giant Bomb is currently live streaming Euro Truck Simulator 2 and it is great. Somehow? Vinny and Alex mostly, and a few others. Dave. Drew maybe?
Edit: Oh and a Breaking Brad (Spelunky - No Shortcuts) in 30ish for any premium members. Anyone else here a Premium member? IC maybe?
I don't go to Giant Bomb enough to want to drop any down for prem. I usually catch their quick looks like the Euro truck game. That was hilarious.
Yeah I hear ya. I kept putting off a membership all year, then finally caved at the Holiday Discount membership. Enjoying a lot of the stuff from the last couple years. Persona Endurance run, some hilarious Throwdown Thursdays, etc. I don't have enough hours in the day.
For anyone else that might be interested in 8 hours of 2012 awesome on two podcasts, compiling the best of Bombcast 2012, here you go.
This Year in Giant Bombcast.

A bankruptcy judge yesterday did not approve the bidding procedures THQ proposed in selling off its assets, which THQ's creditors had complained was rigged to sell the whole thing to a private equity firm for $60 million. Now comes a report that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is an interested buyer.
The word comes from Distressed Debt Investing, a blog managed by an investor who evidently was in Friday's hearing on THQ's bankruptcy. On his Twitter feed, he said "Lawyers for Warner Brothers states they have team ready to complete due diligence if more time is allowed." Other buyers are interested in some of THQ's assets, and some also are interested in purchasing it whole, Distressed Debt Investing said.
THQ's creditors, and the government trustee assigned to the bankruptcy, had filed objections to bidding rules THQ had proposed when it is put up for sale, saying they stacked things in favor of Clearlake Capital Group getting control of everything for $60 million. The sale presumably would leave THQ's management team in place and keep all of its assets together, just owned by Clearlake. THQ has characterized the provisional sale as Clearlake making an investment in the company's new start.
Had the rules been approved, Clearlake would have gotten control of THQ for $60 million assuming another bidder had not come forward. While the judge in this case did not approve the procedures for sale, she rescheduled another hearing for Monday and asked the parties to continue working out their differences.
