Proper Attire for a Military Funeral

I'll be attending a funeral with full military honors this weekend. I have a black, wool suit which I had planned to wear with a white dress shirt and dark red tie.

After checking the weather forecast for the area, it looks like it will be in the low 90's for the funeral. I'm beginning to second guess my selection. I'd like to be as respectful as possible due to the circumstance of the deceased's passing, but if there's a way to manage that without inviting heat stroke, I'd be interested in hearing it.

I've considered leaving the jacket in the car, or bringing my medium/dark grey suit instead, but both of those options seem less dignified.

Suit. Suffer through the heat, pay your respects, jump in a pool afterwards.

Formal pants + shirt no tie is acceptable if the weather is super hot.
If your body lets you wear tie and jacket / whatevs without sweating your brains out, go for it.

No funeral attire is complete with out an oversized, multicolored sign with "God Hates Fags" written in bold, black letters.

I am with this. Especially considering the kind of funeral.

Suffer the heat. Drink lots of water.

You can wear your grey suit instead.

    This is the correct answer.

Suit the fuck up. Its what soldiers do, and this is a military funeral. Every person there should man the fuck up, save for the mother/wife/husband of the soldier.

Feel sorry for the burial team honoring the soldier lol.

I was on the burial detail for eight months at Fort Bragg and that shit would be the absolute worst because you would have to stand at the position of attention/parade rest for 40+ minutes while keeping your composure, in the hot and humid weather, decked out in dress blues, and the pastor seemingly never wanting to shut the fuck up.

It's perfectly acceptable to wear a dark/medium grey suit to a funeral. Proper etiquette also dictates that it's fine to remove your jacket for any outdoor service if it's hot outside, so either of your options would be considered well within the "rules" of funeral attire. Make sure your shoes are polished.

Thanks for the input. I've got the black suit being pressed - I'm going to stick with the original plan and bring along a bottle of water and some strong deodorant/antiperspirant.

Westboro had initially said that they would be picketing the funeral, but I think it's all bluster. Their "official schedule" shows them in different parts of the country, thankfully.

Definitely sucks to be them. I know none of my formal uniforms were anything approaching comfortable, especially in the heat. I doubt the other branches have it any better. But, it could be worse. They could be the family.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to have 13 buttons on the pants was a fucking sadist. It's the only uniform I kept, but there's no way in hell I'd actually wear it again.

They're redoing them. Keeping the buttons for visual, but putting in a zipper, from what I've heard.
