Sorry for the double post, but didn't want to edit my last post twice.
Ramos winding up for the PK. Image says it all.

There was another great shot right after he took it and it went wide, with the camera still showing Ramos. You could see Torres behind him, just staring at him with a "oh jesus..." look on his face
Iniesta, Pedro, Xavi, you know, guys who make their living with their ball skills. And yes, I'd have taken Torres over Ramos in that situation.
Center backs play center back for the same reason goalkeepers play goalkeeper. They're not real footballers, or at least technical ones.
Torres played pretty well in the Italy match. Also, it's not really fair to pile on him in the final....he had zero support playing as a lone striker. What do you expect? You could tell how frustrated he was getting once he started dropping back into the midfield to get the ball, but once he got it, there was no where to go.
lol, touché.
Though he's very likely, one of the VERY FEW exceptions to the rule.
Most people end up goalkeepers/cb's because they're really fucking good at it, not due to a lack elsewhere.
One of the biggest factors getting started is that it's their job to direct everything, especially so in youth play.
Hell I always got pissed cuz when I'd beg my coach to let me out in the field cuz we couldn't get goals and I was just better than the rest of our team, he'd make me go CM for complete control instead of fully up front which meant I had to run back all the damn time lol.
lol, like this proves anything.
Players that have natural ball skills and goal scoring ability don't end up playing GK or CB. They end up as essential cogs for their teams, scoring and creating goals. Are you seriously trying to pick a fight to deny this? It's not a devaluation of defending positions....it's just a fact of life that if you have any relevant ball skills, you're not going to be playing in the back. Plug n play one of the best CB's in the world in Vidic with Van Persie and see what the result is. Vidic for 30 goals next season!!!!! wtf.
Hey, let's put our best striker in as GK, and if shit goes south, put him up front. lolwut? oh sorry, thought we were talking about campos. a guy who was an inferior player in an inferior league. awesome example man. but at least he wore colorful jersey's.
Tell me another personal story that matters, oh that's right, you don't have any because they don't fucking matter and nobody gives a fuck.
Fernando Hierro scored 102 goals in 439 games for Real Madrid. That includes 21 goals in 37 league games in 91/92. He also scored 29 in 89 for Spain.
Whilst the vast majority of the time, midfielders and strikers are going to have better ball skills and goalscoring ability than defenders, it's not a given. Some of it may be natural. Most of it is probably because of the training regime they perform for 20+ years.
Obviously you aren't going to get a defender who can match a world class striker but that's to be expected. I mean christ, even if they had identical ability the striker has had years of daily training in that position.
I am sure there are defenders out there who could have been great strikers or midfielders if they had trained in that position all their career.
^ this
I bet you'd like to go tell Kompany or Pepe or Pique and Puyol how they're not "real footballers" and center backs aren't allowed to have ball skills cuz then they'd have to play another position.
Your argument is akin to saying tight ends aren't real football players cuz they're way too involved in the game and if they were good they'd be wide receivers.
I dunno what your problem with defensive players is but it reads like arguments we had when we were 6 and first started moving past bunchball.

Its gona be a great world cup.Brazil: Referee 'decapitated after stabbing player' in amateur football match
A man has been arrested after an amateur football game in Brazil turned into a gruesome double murder scene.
Problems arose when the referee Octavio da Silva Catanhede Jordan, 20, sent off Josenir dos Santos Abreu, 30, during the match last Sunday in Maranhao. According to Correio24horas, a Brazilian newspaper, Josenir refused to leave and insulted the referee, who then stabbed the player.
Spectators apparently ran onto the pitch in rage to take revenge. According to reports, the referee was allegedly tied up and stoned to death before being quartered and then beheaded on the pitch.
A 27-year-old man is said to have been arrested, and police are seeking two other suspects. Josenir was taken to hospital but later died of his injuries, according to
Police chief Valter Costa said: "One crime never justifies another crime. Actions likes this do not collaborate with the legality of state law."
How are there only three suspects in a stoning, quartering and beheading on a soccer field?
So the U20 WC final is pretty epic... currently still 0-0 10 mins into OT, and it's because the GK have been just fucking fantastic in the face of way more work than they should have.
I know nobody likes the USMNT (a pox on thee, I say), but they've won 8 matches in a row now.
So Gus Johnson is calling the US/El Salvador gold cup game and it's fucking awesome lol.
forgot that shit was on
It was a great game for the US, probably should have been 7-1 instead of 5-1 even.
Just watched the replay on Fox Soccer. Eddie Johnson getting subbed in and immediately scoring in 14 seconds is amazing lol
