    New Dungeons

    Pharos Sirius

    http://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/867...28a2eade_0.png

Off the shores of the Isles of Umbra, the sea is rife with hidden reefs and rocks, leading many a ship to a watery demise below her undulating waves. So it was that a lighthouse was constructed at the end of the Sixth Astral Era. For a time this structure would serve seafarers well, ensuring safe passage through the Navigator's waters. Fueled by an aether generator designed by Naldiq & Vymelli's, Pharos Sirius was the guiding light of Limsa.

The Calamity, however, would change everything. The lighthouse was destroyed in the wake of Bahamut's onslaught, and the surrounding area's aether would soon give way to a formation of corrupted crystal. While efforts to rebuild the lighthouse were impeded by these crystals, the peoples of Limsa would soon face a threat much more sinister.

Thought to be long since purged from La Noscea's shores, a siren has returned to the Isles of Umbra, making Pharos Sirius her nesting ground. Rumors are now made manifest as a supernatural infestation continues to spread across the isles. Once a shining beacon of hope for Lominsans, Pharos Sirius is now the dark dominion of the siren and her legion of undead minions.

    Hard Mode Dungeons

New dangers and formidable foes await those who would dare to revisit Copperbell Mines and Haukke Manor.

    Copperbell Mines (Hard)

    http://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/867...28a2eade_1.png

Thanks to the valiant efforts of Eorzea's adventurers, the horrific hecatoncheires were purged from Copperbell Mines. Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern would waste no time in resuming efforts to expand the mines donward in an attempt to tap yet-undiscovered veins of valuable metal.
The dark depths of Copperbell Mines would reveal not precious ore, however, but a faction of the hecatoncheires clan yet to be expelled from the mines. Adventurers the realm over must band together once more to rid Copperbell Mines of these brutish barbarians once and for all.

    Haukke Manor (Hard)

    http://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/867...28a2eade_2.png

Horribly disfigured during the Calamity, Lady Amandine signed away her soul to reclaim her lost beauty.
Surrendering herself to creatures beyond the void, the lady would never again be seen beyond the walls of Haukke Manor.
Rumor has it the lady has been laid to rest by a band of adventurers, and the Wood Wailers have dispatched an elite unit of soldiers to investigate. Though determined to uncover the truth and expel any beasts who dare call Haukke Manor home, none have returned from its tainted grounds. Now, the Wailers make plans to send a second squad to infiltrate the voidsent villa.

    Leviathan is coming
Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn developer Square Enix has sent over a slight teaser for patch 2.2 and the impending PS4 beta. It seems that Leviathan is coming to Eorzea, and he sounds pissed.

In a press release sent to VG247, Square reminded us that the Final Fantasy 14 beta will hit PS4 on February 22 in Japan. It’s the same day Sony’s console launches across the country. The studio aims to provide beta access to players everywhere without the need to apply beforehand, and highlighted once again the PS Vita remote play option.

Also, patch 2.2 will bring water summon Leviathan to Eorzea, along with new quests, items and crafting recipes, as well as new content for the Binding Coil of Bahamut.

In something of a tease, the studio described the patch in one word; “Maelstrom.”

Yoshida: The 1st expansion will have "the [same] amount of content released with the relaunch."

"The feeling hasn't settled in yet that I've actually accomplished something," he admits. "We're still constantly developing patches and upgrades that we feel are very important. We're still going full throttle. I'm not sure I'll get the realization that this has actually launched until maybe the first expansion."

An expansion, he says, that will have "the [same] amount of content released with the relaunch."

Finally on Steam, discounted by 50%
Square Enix has inserted Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn onto the Steam Store this morning with a 50 percent discount ($15) that will last for the next seven days. Remember, though, that ARR is a subscription game. Current game owners can’t migrate the game into Steam, and new buyers still have to have a Square Enix account, etc.

Ugh the one year I decide I don't want to go because my schedule will be swamped

    http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...fc6650ac78754b
We are proud to announce that our very own Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida will be hosting a session at the Games Developers Conference 2014 in San Francisco! During the session entitled “Behind the Realm Reborn,” Yoshida will be analyzing the original launch of FINAL FANTASY XIV and sharing insight on the decisions and ideas that made the relaunch of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn a historical first in the world of MMORPGs. In the event you are heading to GDC 2014, this is a session you won’t want to miss!

Further details on the session and the schedule can be found on the Game Developers Conference site!

PS3 Support may be dropped in the future, sooner than PS2 support was dropped for XI
During a recent interview (via: Game Jouhou), producer Naoki Yoshida had a few words to share about the upcoming PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, along with some notes on its remote play feature with the PlayStation Vita, and what we can expect to see in the game’s future.

According to Yoshida, when you have a PC with the exact same specs as a PlayStation 4, the game runs much smoother on the PS4 with the game running at up to 60fps (frames-per-second), which makes sense due to the console being a dedicated system for gaming, without other processes running in the background.

During development, the team was able to go higher than 60fps, but it was a little strenuous on the system and the minimum was around 30fps. While it does occasionally dip lower, Yoshida says that for the most part, there weren’t any problems.

At the moment, migrating data from the PC version to PS4 is quite difficult without an archived server, but it’s something they’re currently working on; however, transferring data from the PS3 version is good to go.

Square Enix restricted photo sharing and streams during the beta phase for the PC version of the game, but for the PlayStation 4 beta phase coming February 22, there won’t be any restrictions and Yoshida encourages players to share as much as they want using the PS4 Share function.

The remote play feature with PlayStation Vita runs well, but some things like the font and UI might need to be adjusted, as they may appear a little too small at the moment. Additionally, as far as lag goes, you’ll notice small delays when you do actions like jumping, so it might not be the best way to fight Titan (Extreme Mode) and his plumes.

According to Yoshida, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s first expansion pack will be available in its entirety for PlayStation 3, but as far as the later ones go, he is still uncertain.

The reason for this is because Square Enix feel that in order to compete against other products in the MMORPG market, they must continuously “renew” Final Fantasy XIV, and this could mean that they might eventually go over the capacities of the PlayStation 3.

Yoshida says if they end up having to “trim things out for the sake of the PS3,” he’ll have some big decisions to make.

He also shared a few things on patch 2.2 and beyond. The development team has already began working on the Gold Saucer, but he’s also thinking about adding mini-games you’ll be able to play at the bars in town.

He’d also like to add more ways where players can play around with the field more. A way of playing by climbing up to high areas was something he’s been wanting to add since the launch of the game. For example, you might climb somewhere and say, “There’s a monument up here!” or “I’ve reached the highest spot of Eorzea!”
