I've noticed the whole developer transparency thing can really be a double edged sword when it comes to things like this. Listening to the players and keeping the lines of communication open is a great thing, but it seems like less and less people have any damn sense nowadays. I just hope this vocal minority of the population doesn't cause some knee-jerk "balancing" reaction that fucks the rest of us over, since this has been a pretty unique dungeon experience for a lot of people.

How about they fix the fucking Tournament system? Got to round 3 in my first ever tournament and then my entire team gets into 3rd round and I can't get in because "Network Error". Logging in and out keeps giving the wrong fucking popup (for round 1? WHAT THE FUCK) and so my team gets shafted for no reason whatsoever. Other people weren't able to join last round until the counter ticked all the way to zero, but I still got left in the dust. We lose and I get shafted out of my second place tournament chest. Gee thanks Anet.

ALSO FIX THE METRIC FUCK TON OF BROKEN EVENTS IN ORR HOLY SHIT THIS IN UNACCEPTABLE 4 MONTHS INTO THE GAME. Stop making new content if you can't even fix bullshit like that.

As an aside, I did end up getting my tourney rewards like 2 hours later when I logged in again. Still pissed though.

Not saying you're not right or anything ... but you do remember you're saying that statement on a forum originally intended for FFXI? The king of "incoming emergency maintainence" after a patch ... we should be numb to these kinds of issues by now, no matter the game ... lol

Re: Random Complaint Thread: "GW2 is a bigger letdown than FFXIV"

FFXI party system was a good way to numb wait times for fotm. I laugh when people complain about groups taking 15 to 20 minutes to make.

Mechanics in Dungeons that sound cool in theory but are extremely poorly executed. Note this list isn't including the numerous bugs that cause some of these mechanics to simply not work, though I'll mention one of those at the end.

    Examples:

SE Path 1 - The first boss. This isn't the worst thing in the world as it forces you to think, but if you don't have the right party setup for a ton of CC and a decent amount of stealth, it's borderline impossible and that goes against the whole philosophy of any party setup being able to do dungeons. Though there is nothing more satisfying then nailing a Shadow Refuge that hits everybody, everybody stays in it the full duration and it's perfectly timed to get you past a few groups of mobs.

CoE Path 3 - The Destroyer Troll boss. Um. Who decided this was a good idea? To have a Legendary Mob with Legendary HP where the most efficient way to deal with the boss is to have 3 people sitting up top doing nothing but manning lasers that allow the other two people to even damage the mob. I could maybe see this mechanic being good if the shield was down for more than 10 seconds at a time but come the fuck on, you expect us to ping pong back and forth for maybe 5 seconds of DPS?

CoF Path 2 - Getting Magg across the lava field. For one, having him give out the extinguishers so if, god forbid, somebody does die they can't get back to help if you're halfway across. Second of all, if you're going to make us escort an npc across an environment that kills him extremely quickly and has infinitely respawning mobs, MAKE IT SO HE DOESN'T STAND THERE ATTACKING THINGS. Even if everybody runs straight across he'll still aggro one of the last groups and get stuck attacking them and then you have to kill that shit while trying to raise him while he's standing in fire that kills him in 5 seconds and he sits there for 4 seconds doing nothing right after you raise him.

Twilight Arbor - The Volatile Saplings (or whatever they are called). I like the idea of something that respawns and you have to watch out for, but it shouldn't be a death sentence if you get caught in it for more than a second and it goes off immediately after respawning. Path 1 in particular is pretty fucking retarded because if somebody dies then depending on how far along you are it can take a ridiculous amount of time for them to get back unless they are a Thief because Shortbow rocks the shit out of those saplings. This is partly because Thief Shortbow is one of the only ranged attacks that can actually hit the fucking things. Or at least that was the case the last time I did TA.

Honorable Mention: Pretty much any Boss that has way too much hp for seemingly no reason. Beating on something that is zero threat for 5-10 minutes isn't fun. If it's doing something that I need to dodge constantly then that's ok because at least I'm doing something other than hitting a couple of buttons. Subject Alpha in CoE is a prime example of this when it's not broken, it has a good amount of HP but you're constantly moving around. It's mostly the later dungeons that are guilty of this, HoW specifically. This isn't so much a mechanic though as it is an overall issue with the game.

As for bugs that break said mechanics, I told a few people in BG guild today about it but I'll share it here too because it was so retarded that it bears repeating.

CoE Path 1, Bjarl. The mechanic is to get him to charge into the lightning rods surrounding the area you fight him in to remove a buff that he has that gives him a ridiculous amount of damage reduction. You know what's not fun? When you spend 40 mins killing him WITH that buff because the lightning towers are not responding to the boss at all. That 40 mins is AFTER we spent 20 mins trying to remove buff. We figured out what the goal was after a couple of minutes (it was our first time running the dungeon), and then fiddled around a bit trying to make it happen, and then slowly came to the realization the entire mechanic is broken. We gained a little comfort by getting him stuck on some terrain essentially keeping him in the same place so we could all afk auto-ranged attack (most of us with bleed which was doing more damage in the 1 tick it lasted on him than our attacks, once we realized this we had everybody switch to a weapon that put on bleed and we were able to keep it on full time at least). Here I thought soloing Despot as RDM in XI was the last time I was going to be DoTing anything to death.

Cool in theory, but because of a bug extremely poor execution. I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of any off the top of my head. It seems to me that almost all of these issues are isolated to the latter few dungeons. We haven't even done Arah yet since that entire chain has been broken for a month.

Oh god, don't even get us started on Arah. I could probably make a list twice the size of yours just for that dungeon alone. Maybe even 3 times if I'm trying hard.

    I stopped reading after this:

"a gear-treadmill monetization scheme that would require people to either endure a massive grindfest to keep up with top gear stats, or pay to keep up by buying gems in the cash shop, converting them to gold, and then buying Ascended gear and infusions off the trading post."

That is 100% not true. For one, ascended gear isn't a grind. Secondly, you don't need to pay up to buy gems to turn into gold because you literally have to try to not make money in this game. I bought gems to turn into gold to afford the new minis from Lost Shores because I was under the impression that Consortium Chests were going away after the weekend and so there was going to be a limited supply of them, which would make them more expensive as time went on. I was wrong about the chests, but whatever.

I also still have yet to see ascended gear that has stat combinations I want. Granted we're still finding shit and I haven't exactly looked it up but it's really a moot point because by the time you actually need it to progress in Fractals, you'll have made enough money and done enough Fractals to get a piece or will have gotten a piece as a drop. That is not a gear treadmill. People need to stop throwing around that term because they obviously don't know what the fuck it means.

EDIT: Articles like that are nothing more than scare tactics propaganda feeding off of the retardation of people like those on the official forums.

Yeah, I was wondering what the reaction to that would be. I'm not even playing the game or following it closely atm (played the free weekend and plan to buy it soon) so I didn't know how much of that is true.

Arah: the giant that is in every pass needs to be nerfed to the ground or make a waypoint closer. Nothing like spending 20 minutes to kill him to only get an lucky rape moment and have 3-4 ppl be Downed and then him reset when only one person is left alive.

Boss just has waaay to much hp and is too finely tuned. And when the majority of the GW2 population farms the first boss over and over again and gets roughly 45 tokens and liquid viles an hr by resetting the instance, because the giant is bullshit. You know there is a problem.

No other instance has a boss even remotely close to the giant... Then they basically put the hardest boss in the entire game in Arah (and in all of the paths) just blows my mind. I get that Arah is the final dungeon and all... But having a dungeon full of risen is enough punishment

Could be worse, replace risen with karka and you'd have a truly hellish experience. Speaking of which, anyone else glad we dodged that bullet and there aren't any of those things in FotM?

I actually think the opposite and really hope they add a karka fractal at some point. They're the most interesting mobs to fight in the game imo, I hate how faceroll half the content feels and these mobs actually make you think, learn specific tactics to fight them, etc. The Lost Shores content actually got me 100x more hype for future updates than I was expecting, because I'm hoping they'll add comparably hard stuff if not harder.

A lot of people overstimated the "omg this game is bullshit" difficulty during the event because you just couldn't see them. They're reasonable and engaging to fight now. Invisible karka champs rolling over 100 people was fucking hilarious though.

Not impressed with Lost Shores. Lvl 80 normal mobs aren't supposed to roll you, like these things can. Sure, I can pop them, without any damage, but I have to time everything, to a specific, and go full DPS gear (which I'm always in anyways). Aside from more Ori/Ancient Nodes, and the easier of the two jumping puzzles I've yet to finish, I've no reason to ever go back there.

I'll go back for fun, fighting the adult/vets is fun as hell and requires actually paying attention, not drooling on the keyboard. Young Karka are a joke aside from their 10k projectile (which I can reflect back to almost one shot them, GG).
