It was stated in the live letter interview that PS3 footage would not be shown until mid October. Several PS3 oriented news sites blogged about it a few days ago, I noticed it all over twitter. I can't say for sure or not, but it's unlikely that it's the PS3 version in this trailer.

If that's not a bad encode, then SE is screwed.

That's not lag, that's a poorly encoded video.

Not bad with that in mind, a little cheesy... but dat music. Nostalgia.

Yeah didn't notice the FMV lag till I got to see it again, it has to be a bad encode.

Even the alpha demonstration didn't look that choppy with shaky cam. I think its either the ps3 version or a shitty trailer.

Video is 1080p, can't remember where bit I could have sworn I read somewhere that the PS3 version would only go up to 720p. Have to wonder who is in charge of uploading stuff over at SE between the SMN leak and this.

Are the JP forums also complaining about the framerate dips in the video?

My question is, the last two trailers looked fine, did anyone from marketing or the development team look at this and go, "yeah the one with the jank frame rate and shading that's the one that we are going with." I know that there is a lot of pressure to put out a new trailer for TGS, but it's one of those things where less can be more. I thought that a big thing of Yoshi-P's was that he didn't want to show game play last month at Gamescom, because he didn't think that it was ready yet. Well this trailer desperately needs to go back into the oven.

shouldve just redubbed the limit break trailer with the Final Fantasy Theme, can't get over that weird shaded shit in the beginning

The shading didn't bother me so much as the saturation of the colors, it just looks jarring relative to what we're used to.

Is it too much of a stretch to assume it might have to do with the encoding botch-job as well? Colours can be fucked during the encoding process if they used a shitty codec.

That trailer was just plain awful

    ^

Even without the awful choppiness (which was actually a turn off) it was completely uninteresting and entirely unnecessary.

Also if it was an encoding issue, wouldn't the choppiness be consistent throughout rather than occur intermittently in parts where, you know, a game engine would be more prone to lag?

(honest question, idk anything about video capture)

Depends on the software and encoder in question.

When I encode shit in VirtualDub I do absolutely nothing on my PC while it's processing so it goes without a hitch.

    It's just a frame-rate issue.

The choppiness is throughout the entire video regardless of whether it's pre-recorded FMV or in-game footage. When it comes to more severe choppiness during more active shots, it's because there's more information changing in the frames. For example, the file size of a solid white JPG image is smaller in file-size than another JPG of the exact same height/width/resolution if it were filled with all the colors of the rainbow. Compression and encoding has a lot more work to do, and more opportunities to fuck up when the frames contain rapidly-changing colors/lightness. A clip of scenery where there's not much change within the frame (aside from slowly moving grass/clouds/etc) is a lot less likely to choke up than a shot where the camera is spinning around and no pixel sits on the same RGB value for more than a frame.

Honestly, I don't know why that would get approved without getting re-recorded/re-encoded.

The more I see of 2.0 the less exited I get about it. :/
