interesting...
Edit: scratch that, nvm. Alpha GFX reqs went up, but it's alpha so whatevs.
P.S. Still hate GFX numbering conventions.
Good to see the Alpha invites going out. I'd say on pace to be sending NA/EU invites around the time of the last letter, or at least I hope.
Gokulo's friend pretty much nailed the main points, so I'll just add a few more things to it:
- The main reason why so many things are restricted/masked (black screen cutscenes) is mainly to due to prevention of spoilers.
- The alpha build of the game is mostly built for the sole purpose of the alpha test alone, and thus the alpha build is not the latest version of the game.
- Alpha test will take place around the Gridania region.
- NPC graphical variations around Gridania will be scarce as they're still in the process of 'graphically converting' NPCs from 1.0 to 2.0. This is mainly due to the fact that the data they need to convert is not only of immense size, but they have to take in consideration the slight difference in appearance under the new 2.0 graphical engine and have to make sure each NPC looks like they did before if they existed in 1.0. So don't be surprised when NPCs look different in Beta/Release as they did in Alpha.
- The alpha test will be separated into four phases. Phase One and Two will be in Japan. After Phase Three NA/EU people will be able to join in.
- There will be some updates to the alpha version of the game as the test progresses.
- The alpha test is currently slated to last for a month.
- Yoshi-P will also be playing during the alpha test. If you see him, /wave!
1 month for alpha? I'm kinda surprised
I think a month is good when all they are testing is that the game runs and the servers can handle the load. Hell, we got 4 phases of Alpha before we even see a a legitimately recent build of the game.
Hopefully that means each test is no longer than a week so we get access pretty soon
Ya, if a fight club gets going sign me up :3
I hope they take their sweet time and work out most of the kinks (while giving them time to make more content on the side). I think ArcheAge's beta went for about 90 days. I also hope they break them up into phases. Blade & Soul went through 4 CBTs and 1 OBT. ArcheAge went through 5 CBTs and it will have its OBT this December.
The downloader looks pretty cool.
Well it's likely we'll get in in a couple weeks then, don't see the issue with announcing that they're handing out e-mails honestly.
Even if you don't get it right now it's nice to know that alpha is running and that we're getting somewhere.
1 month sounds about right, beta is where the true testing begins.
Character creator screens from alpha.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...racter-creator
Saw those in the info thread they look amazing. /drool
People on OF complaining about limited character creation options in Alpha, not matching the screens we saw previously. Previous screens show male miqote being created. No male miqote in Alpha. /facedesk
If it's not there, then it won't be in the game. ever.
Hm... guessing that means the only client is JP?
If there were a NA Alpha client, I could fish out info, but the additional layer of translation would just make it a headache.
No idea, haven't seen the leaked client yet anywhere.
Here's to hoping.. when some Jp leaks an alpha video, its female miqo'te O_o
Guess its time to lurk the ffxiv chat on 2 chan discussion boards
Miqo'te breast size slider; Gulkeeva is happy.
