For once i agree with Lucavi, we were all OMG with SS for 1.0 Alpha, and look how the game turned.
I do have hopes for Yoshi, but i'll keep mine until i see the real release

People were pulled in by "ZOMG GRAPHICS" first time, here's to hoping for some big changes that will make people want to play more then go sight seeing.. and thats it.
You can just look at the old alpha threads and see all the "oh man the game looks so pretty" but... thats about it...
I think Yoshi has already proven he has no such plans.
Trust me, I'm excited as well, but I want my own hands on the beta before I start throwing a parade in Yoshi's honor. We should be using terms other than "the game looks great!" or "I love how pretty the character creation looks!" or "I want a hi-rez screenshot of XXX monster!"
Show me how smooth this game feels in the middle of absolute PC and NPC chaos and how modern it will play, and then I'll fire up the Camaro for the lead spot in the parade.
Edit: No disrespect to you, Kuro, as you're my boi. Plus you made all of those wonderful video logs on just how bad 1.0 was (although that wasn't the intention, I'm sure!); it just seems odd to hear the same stuff coming from a grizzled XIV veteran such as yourself.
While I think the game will be good, I think many players here getting hopes up by thinking that 2.0 will bring new, original and exciting MMO. the fact is, many games have let people down such as GW2 and Starwars and I dont think because those games suck but long-time players think they will get the same excitement as they did in their first MMO, which isn't going to happen.
I think it is absolutely fine to talk about the graphics, there's little else to really discuss at this point. Everything else at this point is pretty much just speculation or rehashing points that have been gone over endlessly.
I'm sure when some more important information is released... it'll be discussed.
For now we can bear with the graphics hype.
Start monday stuff will probably keep appearing more often
Most are excited because Yoshi-P managed to turn a shitty game into an enjoyable one despite all the flaws still present.
Meanwhile Tanaka was too busy turning FFXI into a shitty game and adding tons of unbalanced content in it.
If you haven't played XIV in these past 2 years this may seem like bs to you but it's all there, he has already proven himself once.
Reading over xi forums on bg, and OF I'd say you can no longer blame Tanaka for xi's shitty direction lol. The new devs are having a ball shitting that game up all on their own.
No more mention of it outside of PMs. <= Last one. lol
Speaking of graphics for 2.0. Have we seen any in-game screens/footage that display any weather/lighting effects besides daytime and clear weather? I'm a little curious how they're going to handle effects like rain/snow in 2.0. As of 1.0 my framerate lags considerably when it rains in a zone like La Noscea.
Was watching the character creation vid in the other thread and one (just one) thing still bothers me: I'm not a fan of having every option pre-set. I understand why they do it - keeping familiarity with the characters for people who want to "carry over" their character from XI to XIV - but I feel like you're selling your game and graphics engine short if you aren't at least having sliders for SOME options.
Maybe it'll change. Hopefully it'll change and they'll give us both options, but I doubt it, especially because SE never wants anyone to look less than perfectly pretty. I'm not saying I want a fugly manbeast, but I'd rather have 100,000,000 small options with each tick of each slider for each facial part, than a bunch of 6x6 options.
Sounds nice for appearances, but it would be nightmarishly taxing on netcode/overhead when sending data to load a new model.
@Stromgarde, Aion seemed to do OK and it had ridiculous customization.
What were the max # of models onscreen at a time? Local servers?
