Also where do I dl them DLCs?

Also hearing jobs are easier to master. Thank god. I still remember that grind on PS1.

Nvm, made it to that third island and it was fairly obvious how to get DLC. Weird, I have like 0 memory of the immigrant town lol

    wut!

immigrant town was one of my favorite parts. if memory serves, you could actually get different rewards from the final form of the town based on which type of immigrants you got the most of. like if you invited a ton of dancers/bartenders/sailors you would get a slum town, or if you invited a ton of farmers it was a farm town. IDK if that aspect of the immigrant town made it into this version, but I hope so!

From the first 3-5 recruits, it seems like you recruit 1 person/town and it doesn't seem to have a bearing on what type of town it becomes.

I, too, am having a few moments where I forgot something happened in the original game and then remembering it when I'm looking up more information.

I looked it up on gamefaqs, no special towns

that sucks. there was some really cool shit you could get from some of the special towns. hopefully they make up for that with other content

Bruh I played the game when it first came out. I have no idea why but I literally have 0 recollection of the immigrant thing lol

Did they always lead to special monster dungeons?

no, the monster dungeons are totally new. so maybe that's recompense for removing the unique immigrant towns?

Are the unique towns removed? I was trying to read into that and see if I needed to do anything special. Hard finding a lotta info on the 3DS version of this game.

yeah, the unique towns are gone. :/ but do be careful to grab any mini-medals before your town upgrades from stage to stage. that's the only special thing I'm aware of... at this time, anyway

unfortunately I do not :/ and the only FAQ on gamefaqs doesn't have a list yet either. most of them are in the same places from what I hear, but a few have changed... so that sort of helps? lol

It seems to be a little different. I went looking at an old guide and I know I grabbed some medals from places the guide didn't mention.

Almost at Alltrades. So close to job changes.

having such mixed feelings about this game so far...

    Spoiler: show

+ the atmosphere of the game is actually really good. I was worried that the typical DQ modernization (graphics, regional dialects for each town, new item/spell names) would bother me but so far (second island) I still have that same feeling of loneliness in a vast world that I got from the original. the music really helps; the past world theme is just as gorgeous with a hint of sadness as ever.
+ the shard radar is such a ridiculously useful addition
+ the characters are much more fleshed-out now. they had hints of their true personality back in the original, but with the updated dialogue Keifer's kindhearted arrogance and Maribel's catty-yet-slightly-insecure personality really shine through. I'm really looking forward to meeting Aira
    - Ruff. REALLY. RUFF?
    - the difficulty of the game feels like it's been scaled way back, which is sad because I really enjoyed that aspect of the older DQ games. Maribel died in the volcano and you know what? I still beat the boss without her. that's just silly. my hero's mp was still over half full, too. no grinding, and I never bought the leather dress or armor either because I forgot. copper swords and wayfarer's clothes lol. it's not entirely bad; the imp guys were thrashing me silly. seems like the bosses are way easier but the regular enemies still present a decent challenge.

overall I'm enjoying it and I'm not complaining. just... man, I really loved the original. the changes for the positive outweigh the changes for the negative so far, and the fact that the game's atmosphere still makes my heart ache is the saving grace. but if I get to Falrod and those mecha soldiers aren't beating the ever-loving snot out of me, I'm going to be very disappointed.

Well, the 99 slime hearts I sold after leveling Hero, Gabo, and Maribel to max base jobs paid for equipment upgrades at Alltrades and even allowed me to put 10k in the bank. So that was nice.

Generally though, not really. With the way new jobs are no longer having the 'synergy skills' like Sword Dance needing back 2 back jobs leveled, monster jobs are a hard sell to me now, since I remember a lot of those monster abilities made up for not getting those.

I am still probably going to run Gabo as a support character and move him more through monster classes than human ones.

    Question time!

    Spoiler: show
It seems I am stuck at the city with the flying carpet where everyone speaks in unintelligible French accents. Maid lady is telling me to go find a sunken city to retrieve a mermaid stone of some sort, but I do not have any new or unexplored islands available. Imp at the tablet temple just says "Oh, that can't be determined" when I ask him where new fragments are.

Story wise I just finished exploring Alltrades in the present day.

I guess its time I revisit every town and see if I get any fragment indicators.

    Current Party:
    Hero - Pirate
    Maribel - Sage
    Gabo - Beast Tamer

I do not have Melvin yet, doesnt he give you a Yellow fragment or two? Maybe that should be my next stop.

sounds like you get to play everyone's favorite DQVII minigame, "scour the world for shards!"

at least you get a radar now. I remember having to do that at least once in the old game. with a guide, but still...

also just reached the fourth island, and...

    Spoiler: show
GOD DAMN YOU IT'S GABO. GABO GABO GABO.

    sigh...

Did you beat up the bandits south of the temple?

There's one shard there for sure, and I -think- the other two were in present and past day temple?

The guardian dude at the shrine should give hints towards where shards might be.

Also, drake slime is a pretty solid early monster class, if you can get the heart. 0 mp fire breath on my maribel to clear shit up :D

I never played the first one past the first town in the past, so while I'm liking this a bit more. . holy fucking hell I greatly dislike Maribel.
